- President Bush will lead the U.S. delegation that will attend the funeral on Friday of Pope John Paul II, a U.S. official said.
Administration officials were scrambling to retool the president's schedule for late this week. Bush was scheduled to be in South Carolina on Thursday and give a speech to U.S. troops at Fort Hood, Texas, on Friday.

Sexual behavior outside of marriage is clearly forbidden by Scripture. Sexual purity is 99.9999% effective against AIDS, teen pregnancy, and STDs. For the Pope to tell people to wear condoms while engaging in sexual sin would be equivalent to him telling a robber to wear a bullet-proof vest while stealing.
She would be well advised to stay away. An earlier poster was saying that Bill Clinton seemed anxious to have his time with His Holiness be over with. I can well understand how uncomfortable he much have been in his presence.
I don't disagree with you at all. The point I was trying to make is that he didn't look down on people of other religions if they, too, were Servants of God -- whether or not they were Roman Catholic. He respected others, and in doing so, earned the respect of others.
What has Thatcher done MORE than Dr. Helmut Kohl in order to bring down the Soviet Empire??
"Clinton will do anything to get air time. He lives to be known. I think there is little that he would not do to get press."
Maybe.
I see it a little differently.
I've been watching Billy-boy closely since his heart surgery, and thinking about something he said that is within my experience.
He talked going down the tunnel and seeing a light, and described what he called his NDE. The terms of it were interesting, and not very pleasant, actually. He saw masks. Mask after mask. They were all around, and they were being crushed by a force in the darkness. He cast around, and he saw somewhere Chelsea's face, and then Hillary's, and so he stayed focused on them as sort of beacons in the darkness.
Now, I heard him talk about that a little bit. Nobody was interested, frankly, but that falls right in my line.
I am interested.
This was actually a very negative NDE, and it was surprising that Clinton told it. It was not surprising that nobody keyed on it or paid attention to it, except perhaps those who have had such experiences themselves.
So, I've watched Bill Clinton since them. He has acted like a haunted man and sad man. And he should. Because he actually now has a gift. He knows that life does not end at death. Note that the people he turned to for help were the ones he hurt. Note how he threw himself into the Thai relief efforts.
Yes, certainly there is a political aspect in these things.
For Hillary, especially.
But I think Bill Clinton was changed by his encounter with the other side during his heart surgery. He saw the smashing of masks in the dark. He was afraid. He came through. He's been haunted and sad since then.
I don't mind him going to the Pope's funeral.
He needs to get right with God, and he knows it.
It is better that he does.
Where did you hear him say that? I have not heard that story. It might explain a LOT of things.
We just started getting EWTN on our local FM dial.
We are thrilled!
All Catholic All the time.
Rosary twice a day too!
Saving bundles not buying monthly CD's now too, more gas money.
I have not heard this report of a bad NDE for Clinton. I have considered him a traitor to our country and a very wicked man. If he responds to this experience by becoming a changed man, it will be a testament to the power of God.
I will begin praying for him whenever I am tempted to ridicule him. Which is quite often. May he be redeemed.
Wonderful Pictures!
Clinton's loss.
A Catholic today would still have some problems getting elected president; this country has a long history of very, very strong anti-Catholic feeling due to the fact that for so long, the Catholic Church was in opposition to our democracy.
Laura looks Catholic in a mantilla. ;-)
It was right after his first operation. The first time he went on some talk show he spoke about this. He hasn't mentioned it since. I didn't see the show, but heard a snippet somewhere and read what he said in a news article, I think in the Wall Street Journal.
Obviously it's not in anybody's interest to focus on Bill Clinton's NDE...except for Bill Clinton himself. It is very much in his interest to focus on it.
I noticed that the only campaign appearance he made for Kerry was after his operation, Clinton was almost painfully mild in his rhetoric. A lot of folks interpreted this as him damning Kerry with faint praise to clear Hillary out of the way. But I was watching Clinton's face and eyes in the whole thing. What I saw was a man who really, truly, did not care that he was there, and did not care as much about politics as he used to. He was thinking about something a hell of a lot more important. I continue to see that man.
Too bad for Chelsea and Hillary he hadn't needed the by-pass years earlier, eh?
Anyway, this is my interpretation of post-operative Bill Clinton. He spoke of his NDE once, and I happened to hear it somewhere and read it synopsized. Nobody pays attention to this sort of thing, because they don't think it's real. But people who have seen the other side pay attention to this sort of thing, and Bill Clinton acts like a man whose faith has been replaced with knowledge, and knowledge has brought both fear and real guilt where he did not have it before.
Which is actually good news for him.
The Pope was a beyond forgiving man of God.
With that in mind I don't care who shows up.
Glory Be to God in the Highest.
Here is a thought. Keep it in the pants. No AIDS.
Those Africans seem to have difficulty with this concept, which is why AIDS is taking them out so fast.
Thank goodness the Pope was firm in his stance.
Yep
Thanks for sharing that.
I have always thought he was lost, but this gift of a vision gives me a pause. He may get one more chance before being declared a reprobate. The choice truely is his to make.
You have now expressed your opinion. Thank you so much for using a thread about something that has nothing to do with immigration to let us know how you feel.<<
This thread has nothing to do with the Pope either, OK? its about the most recent Photo-Op for the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES. One more way he can look good to Europeans, while ignoring his own Country!
