Schindler Coroner Nixed from Terri Autopsy

Dr. Cyril H. Wecht, the well-known forensic pathologist and coroner of Allegheny County, Pa., told listeners of a morning radio show that he was denied permission to observe Terri Schiavo's autopsy, despite the wishes of her parents.

A medical examiner in Pinellas County, Florida, is conducting an autopsy that could help determine what Schiavo's state of consciousness was and whether she was abused by her husband, as the Schindlers allege. Wecht, appearing on the syndicated America's Morning Show with Quinn and Rose, based in Pittsburgh, said that an investigator working for the Schindler's law firm had called him on Thursday to see whether he would be agreeable to observing the autopsy.

Dr. Wecht told Quinn and Rose he was certainly be agreeable to that, but that several hours later he received word that the medical examiner had declined to give him permission.

Dr. Wecht told the morning hosts that he considered this a mistake, according to Rose Somma Tennent. "He said that, if this were in [his] office, [he] would have said sure - not just because of professional courtesy, but because of the controversy sourrounding this case," Somma Tennet said.

Calls made during the show to the medical examiner's office were not returned.

The results from the autopsy are expected in a few weeks.

So now the local medical examiner is in on this grand conspiracy? Puts the JFK assassination to shame.

If I have no reason to think he's impartial why should I trust him?

I, personally, think this ME might be above board.

Despite what MS said, it was the medical examiner's office that said they were intending to do an autopsy. Schiavo didn't request it.

Also, it has been reported that it's standard practice in Pinellas County if a patient is to be cremated.

I have a hard time believing this because my MIL and FIL died in Pinellas Co, (MIL just in January), were cremated, and there were no autopsies in their case.

Here's the website of the ME of Pinellas County. In the part about Hospice deaths, etc. I find no mention of autopsies being needed and no mention of cremation.

http://www.co.pinellas.fl.us/forensics/policy/policystatement.htm

But it is also my understanding that autopsy results are not made public, except to family, whom I'm guessing would be MS. They are not of the public record for 50 years.

Why not? If I have no reason to doubt his competence or his impartiality then why should I

"Trust but verify." Sound familiar?

Hasn't she been violated enough?

Not very pertinent. The question should be, what is the law regarding observing an autopsy? Is the law unconstitutionally vague? If there is no law, is there policy? Is that too vague? If it is at the discretion of the ME, how has that discretion been applied in the past? If the ME has allowed interested observers before, it would be a violation of equal protection to deny it now.

Rule of law and all that.

This guy is probably a Christian which disqualifies him for EVERYTHING according to the Schiavo/Felos crowd.

Wecht is Jewish.

Cyril Wecht, to answer more than one question or comment here, is now in his mid-70's, Jewish, liberal Democrat, former County Commissioner, candidate for U.S. Senate, and Allegheny County Democratic Chairman. He has been the county coroner for about 20 years.

He is also one of the top forensic pathologists in the nation and has never ducked from controversy, as he was one of the early dissenters from the Warren Report and holds a symposium on the JFK assassination every year at Pittsburgh's Duquesne University.

Sorry, Cy Wecht is a hardcore dem, a politician, and a huge media whore. His office here in Allegheny Co. (Pittsburgh) is also under investigation.

You don't want this guy near this case, and the ME down there surely does not want this guy near this case.

"I'm sure the autopsy will be in hands of a perfectly capable, honorable Scientologist."

Maybe they'll find body thetans inside her.

Then don't. As Henry Kissinger once said, "Even paranoids can have real enemies."

Dr. Cyril H. Wecht is on of the foremost Forensic Pathologists in the world. He is a lawyer and an MD. He has many years of experience in determing cause of death where a crime was committed. He is also a very articluate man, who has given extensive commentary on the subject.

Dr Michael Baden, former NYC coroner, also a man with many years in criminal autopsies has commented on Terri's death.

Since autopsy records are public documents, both of these learned MEs can study the reports, x-rays, bone scans tox reports etc, and comment . I don't think it is necessary that they be present, except to ensure that every possible test is done.

Where is Jordan Cavenaugh when we really need her?

If he is competent and impartial, why should he be concerned about having some third party observe what he does?

I'll let them report findings.

I suspect that the findings will be inconclusive, and they will be released weeks after the cremation.

I understand that the autopsy is finished and only Michael will know the report. Correct me if I am wrong.

Good Lord! Is the Michael Schiavo death squad actively trying to make Terri's execution into a bigger conspiracy than it already is????

Wow... This whole thing has been rigged from top to bottom, hasn't it? The list of conflicts of interest only grows, and Michael has his very best "guilty SOB" face on. Should spur tremendous book sales, eh Michael?

Sick.
