...this thread is indicative of the problem in manufacturing pizza.

The pizza from most chains (Dominos, Pizza Hut, Papa John's, etc.) is cooked on conveyor belt ovens. Most of the time the pizza comes out undone.

The only way to cook a pizza is in an old style pizza oven.

As for the help in these places, it's symptom of a good economy and the state of public education.

Do you remember the stone oven baked pizzas from Shakey's back in the late 60's and early 70's?

Pizza crust to die for....

I remember Shakey's but not their pizza, are they still around?

I haven't seen one in the DC area for 15 years.

... tastes marginally better than the box it comes in.

Been eating the boxes again, have you? You never know where those things have been.

"....but the top places are in New Haven, CT...."

I've had great pizza in Chicago, New York and Boston but the only place I'll wait an hour or more in line is in New Haven. The "Pizza Trinity" is Modern, Pippies and Sallies. There might be better pizza somewhere but there cannot be much better.

It was such good ambush marketing. I turned to my wife and asked if Papa John's was the one on the show. Her answer was yes.In the back of my mind I thought it was Dominos but one commercial timed right revered a hour of promotion for Dominos.HaHa

Why the hell would one ruin a pizza with meatballs?!

The spaghetti didn't turn out.

Pizza Hut's think crust pizza is the greatest.

Brain food, huh?

Dominos surprised me by NOT offering the pizzas the winning team made, as soon as the show was over. Some kind of cheeseburger thing instead. Papa johns essentially offered the winner's meatball pizza.

Are you saying they put St John's Wort on their pizzas?

Or maybe you can brew beer with it?

I have only eaten New Haven pizza once in my life years ago, at Sally's. It was the best pizza I have ever eaten. I will get back there to eat again some time. I need to try the other Wooster Street places also to be fare. I know they are all good.

John Schnatter is a great guy. Remember when he had thousands of pizza's sent to the troops?

Ever since, Papa John is our favorite delivered pizza.

The Chicago stuffed is not pizza at all, but is actually a casserole. (For the record, I have lived in both Illinois and Connecticut and have worked in pizza joints in both.)

I only eat thin crust. Who wants to eat all those useless carbs in a thick crust pie? There are a few local guys here who make a good thin crust pizza. My favorite is blazing hot, right out of the oven. The crust is a bit browned. Sprinkle some red pepper flakes and garlic powder on it. then wolf it down

You probably have Sir Pizza then. Sir Pizza International is the outside-of-Indiana version of Pizza King.

Other pizza is very good but I can't really compare it to these three. If you do go though Modern is just off of Wooster Street at 874 State Street

We were just talking about Shakey's - there are no more pizza joints (chains) anymore like that - at least not in our area. Our Shakeys has a juke box - we used to go there for birthday parties when we were kids. And remember Farrells?
