You are welcome, for what, I'm not sure. LOL

Pardon my being a little braindead today. Long night last night.

I am not Catholic either. I am non denominational. I believe that Jesus died for my sins. I am a Christian. Nothing more. Nothing less.

What is "BAD TIMING" (to quote the moderator who just pulled my thread, i.e. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1375660/posts ) is folks coming onto the threads like this one rightfully and lovingly established about the poor Pope, starting in on taking digs at Catholic doctrine and starting sectarian arguments, (at such a time as this!).

The attempt was actually one to create place on FR for them to argue about that just this one day, to refer sincere questioners and trouble-makers (Catholic bashers) and others over there, and try to keep threads like this one centered on the Pope and our hopes and prayers for him./b>

The intent was not even understood. That was the intent. Too bad it is gone. I guess we will have to put up with Catholic debate vs. non Catholic debate on Mary, Jesus, the Pope, the sacraments, etc. right in the middle of this sad and prayerful time for many, on these other threads like this one...

As a Catholic and a Pole I was raised honoring Mary because she carried and gave birth to Christ, many of our religions honor the mother. modern day thinking that we were not sexist I guess ;)

What about Catholics who do pray TO Mary?
Many Evangelicals think the word "pray" means "worship." So it makes sense that they think Catholics who "pray" to Mary actually "worship" her. Let's look up the word "pray" in the dictionary. Here is what Webster's says about the word pray:

(1) To utter petition to God ... (2) To make a fervent request: PLEAD (3) To beseech: implore (4) to make a devout or earnest request for.

I guess the point is, the prophecies don't matter because they're not verifiable.
I agree. There is one priest, his name escapes me at the moment who has prophecied that JPII would be kidnapped and held for ransom for 2 years in the south of France while an antipope accupies the Vatican. Looks like he is wrong too.

Theologically, the last head of the Church, the Pope, will be Christ Himself.I would respectfully disagree, for theologically Christ is and has always been the Head of the Church.

According to Malachy, who prophecied all Popes centuries ago, we only have two more after John Paul II.

It will be interesting to see if he is wrong or not.

Actually, anyone who is in Christ is a saint. Nobody waits to be declared a saint by God, only by the Catholic Church - and its label as such is meaningless. All believers are called "saint" in scripture by the One who creted and called us into new life in Jesus.'

Almost. Its true that all in heaven are Saints. The declaration by the Church of Sainthood validates that a person is in heaven. There is no other way of being certain. Hardly meaningless to the faithful.

I have fielded this question many times for my friends. I just checked the replies to your "why pray to Mary" question, and find that many answered this very well. I'll reiterate --- Catholics do NOT pray TO Mary ... they ask Mary to intercede for them with Christ (kinda like asking mom to see if dad will let me take the car tonight 'cause he tends to be a softer touch to her). Unfortunately, even many Catholics do not realize this is exactly what they are doing, or have explained this in such a manner such that they are accused of praying to her, instead of THROUGH her.

"Hail Mary ... pray FOR us sinners ..."

'starting in on taking digs at Catholic doctrine and starting sectarian arguments, (at such a time as this!).'

First off I did not see anyone 'taking digs' or arguing. I did see curiosity which I myself have expressed as well.

As to referring everyone elsewhere that have questions......... would the Pope not want those with this knowledge to minister to those of us that do not?

There are many Hail Mary's in our rosary

Hail Mary
The Hail Mary (sometimes called the "Angelical salutation", sometimes, from the first words in its Latin form, the "Ave Maria") is the most familiar of all the prayers used by the Universal Church in honour of our Blessed Lady.

About him:

"In 1139 St Malachy set out from Ireland on a harrowing pilgrimage to Rome. On sighting the Eternal City he fell to the ground and began murmuring cryptic Latin phrases, each signifying the future destiny of the Popes.

For four hundred years the manuscript was locked in the labyrinth of the Vatican. On its rediscovery in 1595 it was rejected by the Church authorities as fraudulent but the content of the prophecies remains remarkably and chillingly accurate: to this day 90 percent have come true."

Hail holy queen, mother of mercy, Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope. To you do we cry poor banished children of Eve, To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate your eyes of mercy toward us. And after this, our exile, Show us the fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

Pray for us, O holy Mother of God.
That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

O Mary, conceived without sin, pray for us.

O God, who by the Resurrection of your Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
granted joy to the whole world,
grant, we beg you,
that through the intercession of the Virgin Mary, his Mother,
we and the Holy Father, may attain the joys of eternal life.
Through the same Christ our Lord.
R. Amen.
