Especially because it doesn't exist. No one wants to be in oblivion.

I'm a Protestant...and I really wanted to understand about intercessory prayer. Protestants don't always want to "make you think the way we do" any more than anyone else.....It's a difference of opinion, but what counts is our belief in our savior, Jesus Christ.

You are correct, and thank you for the astute and comprehensive explanation.

One cannot flunk Purgatory.

Have been going to Google up Kathleen Keating's website to see what her latest is.

I think the prophecy would likely be there.

My best guess.

Please ping mje if you find it and post it.

Blessings,

Spread the word. There is a new FR thread right now, devoted solely to debating Catholicism.

Here it is:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1375660/posts

Entitled: **THREAD TO DEBATE & ARGUE OVER CATHOLIC DOCTRINES** (Not a Pope's Health Discussion Here)

Please direct people there.

This thread is on the Pope's health, and impending (possible) death, and rememberances of his life. If someone can link the new discussion thread here, we can encourage people to go over there to fight or dicuss or whatever.

You're unlikely to become more prepared any younger.

I strongly encourage you to begin prep immediately.

Catholics don't pray to Mary.

Actually, we do. The confusion is in the meanings implicit in the over-worked word "prayer". Some prayer is worship, which belongs to God alone. Other prayer is no more than a request. We use this sense of prayer all the time, in a non-spiritual sense: a petitioner "prays" that a court of law will grant something; an archaic request for information is "pray tell me". I can pray to you for a favor (in Italian, I'd even say "prego"), but here too these's no sense of worship.

Catholics DO pray to Mary. They DO NOT worship her.

HTH

"We are gathering here to offer our prayers."

This is one of my personal favorites, even before I crossed the Tiber:

Hail holy queen, mother of mercy, Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope. To you do we cry poor banished children of Eve, To you do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate your eyes of mercy toward us. And after this, our exile, Show us the fruit of your womb, Jesus. O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary.

It's a difference of opinion, but what counts is our belief in our savior, Jesus Christ.

Some things are differences of opinion and some things are errors. We all have to make a diligent effort to learn the truth, to the best of our abilities, since Christ is Truth.

My prayers go out to all. My not being Cathloic, I don't know how you feel about a pope. But my sincerest wishes that he gets better.

I hope that doesn't read bad. It is not intended too. God bless him and keep him.

I don't have chapter and verse, but during Exodus, several times, the Lord God warns Moses that the people - not even the priests should be allowed to "break through" to Sinai - i.e., stay where they are in the desert - because they are not sanctified and would die upon witnessing the beatific vision. The desert was a metaphor for purgatory where the Hebrews were tested and cleansed - even unto the last forty years as punishment for their lack of faith. They could not enter the Promised Land until they had been purged of their sins - an entire generation, to be exact. Pharaoh signified Satan's pursuit of the children of God, the parting of the Red Sea signified baptism, Manna foreshadowed the Eucharist, the promised land signified not only heaven, but our journey to the New Jerusalem, God's Kingdom come.

From 2 Maccabees:

2 Maccabees 13
43
He then took up a collection among all his soldiers, amounting to two thousand silver drachmas, which he sent to Jerusalem to provide for an expiatory sacrifice. In doing this he acted in a very excellent and noble way, inasmuch as he had the resurrection of the dead in view;
44
for if he were not expecting the fallen to rise again, it would have been useless and foolish to pray for them in death.
45
But if he did this with a view to the splendid reward that awaits those who had gone to rest in godliness, it was a holy and pious thought.
46
Thus he made atonement for the dead that they might be freed from this sin.

Some also cite Jesus' admonition that prisoners would not be released from prison "until every last cent has been repaid". We know that Hell is eternal and that price cannot be repaid. Catholics believe that Jesus was referring to Purgatory...

Let us pray for our Sovereign Pontiff John Paul.
The Lord preserve him and give him life, and make him blessed upon the earth,
and deliver him not up to the will of his enemies. Amen

Regardless of one's religious affiliation, this is a sad day. When Margaret Thatcher passes away, it will be the end of an era of giants who changed the world.
