one terrorist was heard to say: "We are fighting. But the Marines keep coming. We are shooting, but the Marines won't stop." He's not the first enemy of America to learn that lesson.

As someone who supports the USMC this makes me glad. Resistance is futile.

If Clinton had allowed that in Somolia, 9-11 would never have happened. Clinton's weakness was perceived by our enemies as America's weakness. Enemies are currently reassessing that perception.

There are not enough china-men in the world to keep a Marine division from going where it wants to go. I think I got the above quote from Chesty correct, but the meaning is the same then and now.

200-odd years ago, a bunch of people in that same area of the world *were* the first to learn that lesson. Unfortunately for them, they didn't remember it and the Marines are back to teach a refresher course.
Some peoples never learn.

one terrorist was heard to say: "We are fighting. But the Marines keep coming. We are shooting, but the Marines won't stop." That's why keeping up the momentum is so important. Advances that are too deliberate get more people killed in the long run.

(snip)
I would not wish to fight the United States either militarily, politically, or culturally. For every threat, our history teaches us that Americans offer not just a rejoinder, but the specter of a devastating answer of a magnitude almost inconceivable to those now chanting and threatening in the streets of the Middle East. Do they have any idea of what sort of dangerous people we really are? Do they understand the history of the names of those ships now off their coasts, like the USS Peleliu or Enterprise, or the pedigree of the 82nd or 101st Airborne?
