Fallujah post-mortem
Some Marine units moved through Fallujah in November with Arabic translators. The infantrymen wanted to be able to eavesdrop on the terrorists' radio net.
A Marine told us that, roughly translated, one terrorist was heard to say: "We are fighting. But the Marines keep coming. We are shooting, but the Marines won't stop."
The Marines, backed by Army tanks, captured Fallujah in 11 days and with it the last large base for Abu Musab Zarqawi.

I see it more along the lines of "look what they can do when they actually are allowed to fight!!!"

200-odd years ago, a bunch of people in that same area of the world *were* the first to learn that lesson. Unfortunately for them, they didn't remember it and the Marines are back to teach a refresher course.
Some peoples never learn.

My point exactly. Some people need a refresher course in kicking ass and taking names.

Some Marine units moved through Fallujah in November with Arabic translators. The infantrymen wanted to be able to eavesdrop on the terrorists' radio net. That's what I'm talking about. It's one thing for them to assume we may be on to them. It's another to have it flatly confirmed in a major newspaper. Poor insurgent OPSEC allows us to exploit their weaknesses, find them, and kill them. Good insurgent OPSEC turns them into a shadowy threat that takes years to find and destroy.

People never learn, do they? The policy is simple.
1. Send the Marines.
2. Send in MacDonald's.
Always remember the Marine who held off Kerry at a MacDonald's in Newburgh, NY.
Carry on!

well said and very true. Wow, a compliment from a Marine. My ex-Army brain is trying to figure out how to deal with this. :)

The Marine Corps has exactly two defeats in our 229 year history. Wake Islands and Corrigedor.
On Wake 343 Marines sunk two destroyers, an auxilary crusier, a heavy crusier, three transports, shot down 17 planes and killed or wounded 421 Japanese. If it hadn't been for poor communications that made it appear to Major James Devereux that the island had been overrun they might have stopped the Japanese third try. In fact the Marines were winning.
Wake Island was the only time during the 20th Century that a major amphibious invasion failed, and the Marines stopped the Japanese twice.
Corrigedor doesn't count. The 4th Marines were surrendered by the Army despite Marine protestations. A Marine takes orders, even orders to surrender, and obeys them.

Actually I'm proud of my service, but the Marine title means so much to me as an American Patriot. God Bless all who serve.
At the age of 26, already married with two daughters, a mortgage and a good job as a Geological Consultant, I was hit with an overwhelming desire to serve my country.
I approached the Army about enlisting. I wanted the infantry and I wanted airborne. Nothing less would do. I wound up being an Infantryman(11C) and a Ranger.
Had the Army Infantry not been in need of my service, I would have joined the Marines.
