In his strongest comments yet on the Terri Schiavo case, actor Mel Gibson calls her killing "nothing more than state sanctioned murder.
The actor and director spoke out Wednesday night in a telephone interview with Fox News Sean Hannity.
"I heard their cry for help, Gibson explained his public comments. Gibson insisted that Terri Schiavo is not in a vegetative state.
Gibson said he decided to take a public stand because "it is completely wrong to deprive this poor woman from food and water.
He added that the court ordered method of killing depriving her of basic sustenance -- "is a prolonged and cruel execution.
Gibson said he is closely following the case and is astounded by the developments.
"I just sit here watching this whole scenario play out in front of me with my mouth wide open, that our country has come to this, he said, adding, "I think its a really black day.
The actor offered little hope for Terri Schiavo at this point, describing the appeals as "a little too little too late.
"Its nothing more than state sanctioned murder, Gibson continued.
He was also disturbed that a local Florida judge was given the unquestioned power to sentence Schiavo to death.
"All the big guys, theyve got their hands tied by some tin-horned judge down there, he said. "Common, when they want to whip a judge they got no problem getting Judge Moore in a heart beat.
"Its so wrong and I watch it, appalled and stunned, that we have gotten to this.

Then why wasn't Schiavo ever charged?
So, they're guilty. Where is the punishment? If there is no punishment, the law is inept.
You apparently didn't want to follow any combination of words that weren't "murder Terri per her HINO's orders through state sanctioned, state executed execution". - Breath. - That's more than Terri can do now. Satisfied?
I think someone on FR wrote that Mikey's mommy had been employed by that Sheriff's Dept. for twenty years. Now Mikey is a "nurse" at that department. I wonder just how often the inmates need an aspirin or a band-aid which requires Mikey's "nursing" abilities which were supposedly attained in the first place in order to rehab Terri.
I would be very surprised if Mikey and Felos weren't already adding up dream profits from tell-all books, articles and made for tv movies. HAH! It would be AMAZING if Mel Gibson were to make a movie with Terri and the Schindlers as the heroes instead of Mikie and Felos! ANYTHING they would do would make a poor showing compared to the talents of Mel Gibson when it comes to telling a story and getting it right.
Yes. And the opinion of film industry tycoons on the issue is so important.
Good for Mel!
Why would you suggest I would be satisfied? You don't know my feelings about her death. So, don't bother to speak for me.
I doubt that he could have found grounds (in a legal sense) to do so, much as I would have liked. He would have acted if he and his legal advisors thought it was possible. Judges can be impeached by the legislature and removed only by impeachment. They cannot simply be fired by the executive leaders of the state or the country. Sorry, but I just can't figure out how many of you think he was remiss. He did push the bill to save her through the FL legislature and signed it immediately.
Jeb tried, I will give him that, but I would have put Greer behind bars for as long as I could have on any charge at all. I am pretty sure that LE can throw anyone in jail for at least 48 hrs without any charges what so ever. Long enought to get a temporary Judge to rule to revive Terri.
Hannity had an interview this afternoon with a lady who had been the Schindler's atty for 3.5 years around the 2002 hearing to remove her feeding tube.
This atty. stated that Terri neither suffered from bulimia, nor did she have a heart attack. In 2002, she was able to depose a Dr. who testified that Terri had neck injuries consistent with attempted strangulation when she was taken to the hospital in 1990.
53 weeks later, when she was at a rehab facility, a bone scan was made unbeknownst to the family, that showed she had a number of broken bones including broken ribs, two broken ankles, a broken thigh bone, a broken pelvic bone and (possibly), a fractured skull.
None of these charges were ever investigated because Greer suppressed the evidence and refused to admit it into evidence and the Pinellas County DA said that the statute of limitations had expired and he couldn't prosecute a case against MS.
"I didn't get around to it, but maybe someone else could assemble--or add to--a list of those notables who are against the abominable starvation of this helpless innocent."
I think it's pretty pathetic that we need to a have list of people who are against, as you put it, "the abominable starvation of this helpless innocent".
In a non-bizzaro world that we apparantly no longer live in, I would have expected that everyone would be safely presumed to be against it.
Word. What's up is down, and what's down is up, Truthsearcher. All I can do is shake my head.
'Celebrities Mel Gibson, Patricia Heaton, Randy Travis and Pat Boone have each issued statements supporting Terri Schiavo's parents. '
Terri's home & at total peace. Now the earthy battle goes into to phase two.
That would be to me, the common sense view of the law.
Adultery breaks the marriage bond and gives the offended partner the right to divorce, even according to Biblical standards, which are very high.
To allow this evil man to continue to be in control of someone who he has betrayed is beyond comprehension.
I hope the truth of what happened here comes out and I hope that Florida reassess its law about denying food and water to PVS, as being 'extreme measures', which is simply barbaric
Why not deny them shelter also?
That is an absurd standard, but we saw this with the Abortion movement when it went from the first three months of pregnancy to any time of the pregnancy based on the 'health of the mother' (including 'mental health')
Shoot, cut their air off as well while yer at it
Yeah, right! The past two weeks are the proof that we'll be led to the slaughter just as easily as they were.
