TRANSCRIPT Updated: 4:04 p.m. ET March 29, 2005 The overwhelming majority in the medical community say Terri Schiavo has close to no brain activity and has no chance of regaining awareness. Dr. Ronald Cranford, who actually examined Terri Schiavo in 2002 and testified to her condition, joined "The Abrams Report" on Monday. Cranford is the assistant chief of neurology at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis as well as a faculty member at the University of Minnesota's Center for Bioethics. Below is the transcript of their conversation.
DAN ABRAMS, HOST: You're one of the few people who has actually examined Terri Schiavo and you're hearing all of these people who are coming on from the sidelines saying, "She's has been misdiagnosed," et cetera. How confident are you in your diagnosis and why?
DR. RONALD CRANFORD, UNIV. OF MN NEUROLOGIST: I'm extremely confident. I think at the time of the trial in 2002 there had been eight neurologists who examined her. And of those eight neurologists total, seven of them said beyond any doubt whatsoever Terri is in a vegetative state. Her CT scan shows severe atrophy or shrinkage of the brain. Her EEG is flat and there's absolutely no doubt that she's been in a permanent vegetative state ever since 1990. There's no doubt whatsoever, Dan.

No kidding. Codeblueblog is my newest addiction. Dr. Boyle thus far is the only doc to put his money where his mouth is.
Which is it?
He's a sicko for inferring that the medical opinion of Dr. Cheshire was produced simply because he is a "fundamental christian".
Why would a physician do something like that, or more specifically, why would Cranford feel the need to publically declare that Dr. Cheshire's opinion is unworthy because of his religious beliefs?

I'm certainly not an expert, but I can read it well enough to understand that Terri's brain is in very bad shape.
I wouldn't expect anyone to make a firm diagnosis based on one scan, but on the other hand the scan is pretty clear in the fact that Terri's brain injury is more significant that some want to accept.
I just read a very well thought out article on FR about Terri's case. It's by ethicist Eric Cohen. It's a tad lengthy but an easy read and one of the best articles I have read for continuing to give Terri food and water. For anyone interested, here it is:

Can anyone explain why...that is if you're not too busy fending off the special operators rappelling down into your backyard from the black helicopters waiting to snuff you out.
"So were the nurses who wrote that she vocalized things like "stop" when they did things she didn't like simply imagining it?"
They (the nurse) wasn't imagining it, they were lying. There was no record in all of her files baring out what they said. If a person thought to be in a PVS started talking, EVERYBODY would know.
Have you heard her vocalizations? They are the same sounds over and over again.
They do not sound like words at all to me.
BTW, a brain that suffers dehydration is naturally smaller due to the lack of fluid. There's a good chance the man doing the autopsy is a pro-death crony (chosen by Michael and his lawyer - again!) and counting on people not knowing that. Prepare yourself. These people have no souls!
No. But they can show significant damage as this one has.
It's all just a plot.
LOL, I guess if one is Christian fundamentalist one knows not what one is talking about huh?
Not meaning to offend you, but I certainly hope that my illnesses and ails are not treated only by methods available in the 80's!!! Medical advancements are like dog years. What medicine can't do today, it can do next week with ease.
Did you bother to read through the info in the link I posted? Are you a radiologist? I'm not. I suggest if you are (since you apparently know how to read brain scans) that you take Dr. Boyle up on his $100k challenge! That would be some spending cake, eh? Even for well paid medical professionals like yourself! Unless you're not a doc. In which case, read the link all the way through, please.
Good post flaglady.

ROFLOL!!!!!
You are misinterpreting what was said. Context matters.
Now, how can you take this out of context?
