Police 'Showdown' Averted ['Team of State Agents Were En Route to Seize Terri']
Miami Herald ^ | Sat, Mar. 26, 2005 | CAROL MARBIN MILLER

Posted on 03/25/2005 7:55:28 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.

Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.

For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''

In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.

''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.

''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''

The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

yes......but they are bordering on theocratic thinking and when that happens, any reasoning presented not supported by biblical passage is heresy or worse.....seems like we are fighting a bunch of bad guys that like that system of govt.

"Jeb Bush has a responsibility to God.

He can't do it without "defying court orders" to be true, but he CAN claim Florida law, and the Legislature would certainly back him up as to that law if the court petitioned the Legislature to impeach."

THINK. "IF" God wanted Jeb to act in a specific way, neither you nor I or allllll the people in this nation could get in the way. Now if Jeb disobeys God then God will take care of him HIS way not your way.

This case is not about Jeb not saving Terri, Christ saves. How is any of what you are saying demonstrating anything that Christ ever said or put into motion? That is your standard.

Nice to meet you, but I would appreciate some rational substantive (did I spell that right?) thought in that post.

I'm not going to correct your spelling, until you try the old "I'm smarter than you" routine. :)

Live by the typo, die by the typo. That's my motto.

Chad, you're wasting your time. I believe we're in an online revival meeting and have the misfortune to be holding a pitchfork and a beer.

Man, if we have to clear THAT up around here...

In God we trust? Federal CHRISTMAS holidays. Constitution: "...in the year of our Lord,..."

You'll have a lot of sweeping to do before it's over.

All you are doing is screaming at me that I'm not Christian. OKAY, Mr. Expert, either tell me what IS Christian, or shut up about my not being one.

Just damn. It's really difficult trying to reason with someone who can't comprehend what is being written to them.

Krystal Nacht was evil.
Boxcaring Jews and taking them to death camps was evil.
Taking water and nourishment away from a defenseless woman is evil.

Are you with me so far?

I never said you were siding with the NAZIs. What I was trying to say was that we can't excuse ourselves for siding with evil. If the courts do something evil, we can't simply dismiss our responsiblities any more than the Germans could in the 1930s and 40s.

If true to forum, you'll bluster about unfair comparisons and democrats who demagogue. That won't change the fact that you are asking folks to honor courts who have done something evil, thereby supporting that evil.

Actually, I've been treated like I showed up at my childhood church with a whore on one arm, a bottle of Wild Turkey under the other, smoking a cigarette, and asking "Who's up for a game of Poker?"

People who use the "grow up" argument (and I've had quite a few) are virtually always too sophisticated in their minds for the Bible.

The MSM is happy because they think the actions by the Congress and Pres. Bush have so angered people that his poll numbers have hit a trough not seen since Abu Ghraib broke. They think the splits betweenthe various GOP factions can be used in '06. That's why the MSM is happy.

Let's just call it righteous annoyance. You don't warrant such, however.

Pity for the sorry state of American education is the emotion that you evoke.
