Police 'Showdown' Averted ['Team of State Agents Were En Route to Seize Terri']
Miami Herald ^ | Sat, Mar. 26, 2005 | CAROL MARBIN MILLER

Posted on 03/25/2005 7:55:28 PM PST by West Coast Conservative

Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.

Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.

For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''

In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.

''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.

''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''

The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

well I was just answering the phrase about life and liberty without prejudice......so you are saying there are exception......I for one don't like this at all......I always though numb nuts should have given up custody to the parents...but I really draw the line when some decide to take the law in their own hands....what I feel in my heart about the case has no bearing......every damned court ruled agains them, like it or not, they have followed their due course....my opinion is not on her death on this thread but what others are willing to do.......and asking the cops or whatever no to enforce the law is just too far out for me...

"WHO AM I TO HAVE AN OPINION?" HE WAILED. "WHO AM I TO DISAGREE?"

Only Jeb Bush is in the position to break the law to satisfy you.

He can do it within the statutory and constitutional laws of the State of Florida which are on the books right now! The only thing stopping him is an inevitable confrontation with the judiciary.

In fact, he is the ONLY person in the state who has the means and the will to solve this problem lawfully now.

Either we live in a nation of laws, ore we don't. You want a KING or a benevolent dictator, not a president. MOVE!

Look up what Peter said to the council, when asked not to preach. "Better to obey God than men." On the most fundamental level, you are profoundly and abjectly wrong.

On a secondary level, we have a system based on checks and balances. The Governor of the state of Florida has an executive duty to protect the civil rights of its citizens. If the courts fail in that duty, the governor, and/or the legislature has an obligation to step in. If the people don't like the way they use that authority, they can vote them out. That's a far cry from a monarchy or a dictatorship, and I think you know it.

You are defending a profound ignorance when you emasculate the office of the governor, in a desperate attempt to defend the antics of the current office holder. Conservatism is not a team sport you root for at any cost, even if your team members are cowards, or mutinous. You have an obligation to tell the truth, even if Jeb won't.

>>>How convenient for all of you. Only Jeb Bush is in the position to break the law to satisfy you. When it comes to the possiblity of any of you risking anything, you always look to your left and right - never in the mirror.

"Shut up" yourself.<<<

You didn't look at that list. You just made an irrational attack called, "Ad Hominum".

This once again shows the lack of intelligence that you posess, due to your continued use of a irrational claim. Please take a basic logic course and learn to understand the part that logical fallacy and "(r.t) play in the world of thought.

They may, but even a minute of actually comparing Sharia to Christendom would disabuse that notion but fast.

"no matter how emotionally we feel about the case, the minute we take the law into our own hands for our own ideological devices is when the real trouble starts....anarchy messes up many a picnic"

So true.

Ever since the numerical/power majority has been diluted, and continues to be diluted, through inane anti-European immigration and 3rd world illegal aliens invasions the people are afraid to raise their voices.

Demographics have consequences, folks.

Hold on to your hats. We'll be up to our necks in no time.

In the meantime, prepare yourselves and your loved ones, times are a-changing.

I'm just appalled at the bunch of candy-assed sissy-girls the executive branch in Florida has turned out to be

Well, at this point, same here.

But you know, if this story is true (and not a plant to shore up J. Bush's image, which it could be), then I have this to say:

They are looking at this and saying, "How can we do this?"

I think that by now I truly am convinced that we actually are seeing a well organized criminal conspiracy, small Southern town style, the stuff that used to happen. The main guys are the town leaders - former sheriff Rice, now Republican state representative Rice; hires Mikey, keep him happy and occupied, doing the gang's bidding. Felos the devious, cunning attorney, the brains behind the deal: he saw how you could catenate the emerging case law on "terminally ill" patients with Medicare payments and use it to make millions, while killing off the people who were causing too much expense.

Greer is not really in on the deal: he's been identified as a useful idiot, a has-been who never was, played for a sucker. The moron who gets sent to do the gang's dirty work without understanding how they're working him. And why? He wants to be a big man, and they contribute money to his campaign. Probably tell him what a brilliant guy he is, too. So he gives them what they want.

Those cops out front? Bought and paid for. Sheriff Rice's boys. They know who buys the donuts.

They're all in on it. Even Greer probably has an inkling, but he goes along. 'Cuz now he's a Big Man. Finally, after all those years of being a bumbler and a buffon, screwing up even the little cases.

What should the Governor do? If I were him, I would have a team working overtime to make state conspiracy charges against the whole goddamn group. Bring in his brother's guys, the Feds, make a RICO case out of it, IRS and everyone else.

And then, simply go in with state troopers and Bureau of State Investigations SWAT teams. The cops there are, as I said before, now in open defiance of state law. They have to be taken down.

Maybe some people will compare this to Waco, Elian, etc. It's just the opposite: this would be a case where the government would be used to stop government crime.

Bush needs to end this little rebellion by a criminal gang operating under cover of a corrupted judge. Big Time. Now.

We are told to pray in the Heavenly Father's will be done NOT our own, and if you think for one minute that the Heavenly Father is not fully aware of what is taking place, then you need to have a time out.

God knew, and knows, what will happen to Terri. He allows it to happen through no understanding of our own. That does not take away the responsibility of Christians to pray and ask God to intervene in the events taking place if it be His will.

"Actually, I think a lot of moderate conservatives (yes, there are a few) are going to look at all this and draw the inevitable comparison of some people's rather rabid views to those of the Islamic fundamentalists who demand Sharia Law.

All in the name of some God."

I totally agreed, however, that does not let them off the hook. Being luke warm wasn't describe as a positive.

Is it because I expect someone who is demanding something of Jeb Bush to expect the same of himself?

Sorry, very weak argument. Jeb Bush has a primary responsibility to protect innocent life in Florida. He is their elected governor. If I'm elected governor of Florida within the next few hours, let me know.

Jeb Bush could do anything and everything these people wanted, and I know it would take no time at all for the bulk of them to be complaining about him again. This is a problem with our side. I've heard more complaining about the efforts of pro-life Republicans here than I have from the left. If I were Jeb Bush, I'd give up and tell them to get a Democrat to fix it.

Problem is that W has set a standard that Jeb will be held to. And already is. W didn't ask permission to take on the WOT, he just did. You may not like it but Jeb is not showing leadership here.

He says he's not in that position. Now, either you know more about the law than his legal team (and I don't think you'd claim to), or you're calling him a liar.

So what we need to know has been revealed.

The local "cops" are in cahoots with the scumball judges.

This stinks more every minute...

impartiality defined as anyone who disagree with the first two outcomes?...Right? Just who would be impartial that everyone could agree on? The Schindlers have approved of every impartial advocate(GAL)and Dr. appointed by the courts...until their findings conflicted with what the Schindlers believed...Then the impartials were magically transformed into "Death Merchants".

There will be little good to be found at the end of this no matter what now.
