Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.
Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.
For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''
In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.
''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.
''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''
The incident,known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

But you know, if this story is true (and not a plant to shore up J. Bush's image, which it could be), then I have this to say:

I think that by now I truly am convinced that we actually are seeing a well organized criminal conspiracy, small Southern town style, the stuff that used to happen. The main guys are the town leaders - former sheriff Rice, now Republican state representative Rice; hires Mikey, keep him happy and occupied, doing the gang's bidding. Felos the devious, cunning attorney, the brains behind the deal: he saw how you could catenate the emerging case law on "terminally ill" patients with Medicare payments and use it to make millions, while killing off the people who were causing too much expense.
Greer is not really in on the deal: he's been identified as a useful idiot, a has-been who never was, played for a sucker. The moron who gets sent to do the gang's dirty work without understanding how they're working him. And why? He wants to be a big man, and they contribute money to his campaign. Probably tell him what a brilliant guy he is, too. So he gives them what they want.
Those cops out front? Bought and paid for. Sheriff Rice's boys. They know who buys the donuts.
They're all in on it. Even Greer probably has an inkling, but he goes along. 'Cuz now he's a Big Man. Finally, after all those years of being a bumbler and a buffon, screwing up even the little cases.
What should the Governor do? If I were him, I would have a team working overtime to make state conspiracy charges against the whole goddamn group. Bring in his brother's guys, the Feds, make a RICO case out of it, IRS and everyone else.
And then, simply go in with state troopers and Bureau of State Investigations SWAT teams. The cops there are, as I said before, now in open defiance of state law. They have to be taken down.
Maybe some people will compare this to Waco, Elian, etc. It's just the opposite: this would be a case where the government would be used to stop government crime.
Bush needs to end this little rebellion by a criminal gang operating under cover of a corrupted judge. Big Time. Now.

yes it is.....and we have sanctioned murder all the time...like death row, war etc......and not everyone is calling this murder you know.....just those that are adamently opposed to it......I side with the opposition to this but don't go to the lengths you do and call it "murder"......sorry we disagree on that cause it is a powerful word
Problem is that W has set a standard that Jeb will be held to. And already is. W didn't ask permission to take on the WOT, he just did. You may not like it but Jeb is not showing leadership here.
He says he's not in that position. Now, either you know more about the law than his legal team (and I don't think you'd claim to), or you're calling him a liar.
So what we need to know has been revealed.
The local "cops" are in cahoots with the scumball judges.

Lord God in Heaven, we pray Your power to raise up a Defender in Florida who will be able and willing to overcome Greer and his minions of evil, and if even yet possible still save Terri for good.
There will be little good to be found at the end of this no matter what now.
