Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.
Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.
For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''
In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.
''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.
''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''
The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

...as was Congress which has the authority to change the judicial guidelines. Thanks for the comments.
That's exactly right, and you'd better understand that God placed Jeb where he is, and unless you know better than God, maybe you'd better wait to see what He wants Jeb to do instead of demanding that Jeb do what YOU want him to do.

Bump Doughtyone. We'll get em.
The issue in this case has always been that her wishes were FAR from clear, and she hasn't received due process. I think she should be saved, but I'd ask this of those demanding the government officials simply dispense with the rules: Don't you think the families of people on Death Row feel just as justified? I don't seem to recall any such compassion for lawbreaking on their part.
And no, Terri isn't a criminal--my point is she's being TREATED as one. She's innocent. But some folks whose loved ones are being gassed feel precisely the same way in their cases--and THAT is what this thread is largely about, FEELING, not fact, not law.
Once we decide laws don't apply to us because we "just know" we're right, well, why should anyone respect any law they don't "feel" is right? Will you be saying "Oh, hey, if you really FEEL the law shouldnt be respected, go right ahead"? Doubt it.
Good point.
IMO, if Terri should die, the State Police should declare it a suspicious death (based on the original suspected attempted murder), sieze the body before it can be cremated, carry out an autopsy, and determine if there is sufficient for a murder indictment of Mr. Schiavo.
He better be the stakes are huge and growing.
Pray with me, please: "Lord, I right now pray for Jeb Bush. More than anyone in the country, he is in a position to make a decision that could affect not only an innocent woman's life--but also our very Nation's survival. Lord, Governor Bush is extremely aware of the risks of escalating this fight--as well as the risks of not doing so. I pray that you will give him a supernatural wisdom and courage to know and do YOUR WILL and YOUR WILL ALONE. I pray for Terri, that you will let her pain be removed from her and that you would indeed intervene and prolong her life. I pray for all the officers in all the agencies, that they would have dread looking in the mirror, that they would turn in their badges, that they would have Blue Flu and do what is RIGHT, regardless of the cost. I pray that the lies that are being told would quickly be exposed. I pray against the powers of evil that are in evidence in Florida. I pray for Michael Schiavo, that he would be humbled and repent of any sin. I pray for the many judges in America, particularly the ones who have had Terri's case on their desks, that they would hear, loudly and continually, your Still Small Voice and that they would judge righteously. And Lord I confess that I am also a sinner saved by grace, the grace of Easter and as you Child, I ask you boldly, Abba, please hear and answer in a mighty way, oh let us continue to be "One Nation, Under God." In Jesus' Name, Amen"
P.S. Lord, Why do the heathen rage? And how long? Psalm 2.
Any agreeing with me in prayer, please do so.
And how many days after that before they're blaming him for not doing enough and having "no testicles" again - one? An hour? Five minutes?
The solution is not to ruin Jeb Bush, but many are hell bent on doing just that. No wonder people think we're so stupid.
Let me translate your comments, "Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"
Thanks.
"There has to be some background..."
Are you serious???? What's been on television for the past more than a week except a larger and larger number of people essentially calling MS a liar?
The AG has to go looking for such a thing? Bull.
Jeb doesn't have the balls to do anything.
My God - listen to the two women on Fox tonight (added to more who have already submitted affidavits and appeared on TV. What else does a man of courage need to act?
Jeb Bush is a wimp.

Would it be possible to arrest and bring murder charges against Greer and Felos and the rest of the scum? Knowing, planning and conspiring to kill Terri Shiavo...
Power is an interesting concept. If you don't take it sometimes you don't get it.
Find my post about the update I got from Frist. These politicians have given up. And God never wishes the innocent to die.
I think if the poll were taken after people saw pictures of how Terri is now, the results would be different. Don't you? Nevertheless, it is true that there are too many meatheads who are more concerned with the latest game from Sony than a poor woman being cruelly terminated by the state.
Ronald Reagan fired the striking air traffic controllers & showed he had the stones to be a great leader. Old man Bush would have kept negotiating. He left Saddam in place. He caved on taxes, etc.
Jeb is like is his dad - good man, not bold enough.
Agreed.
