Hours after a judge ordered that Terri Schiavo was not to be removed from her hospice, a team of state agents were en route to seize her and have her feeding tube reinserted -- but they stopped short when local police told them they would enforce the judge's order, The Herald has learned.
Agents of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement told police in Pinellas Park, the small town where Schiavo lies at Hospice Woodside, on Thursday that they were on the way to take her to a hospital to resume her feeding.
For a brief period, local police, who have officers at the hospice to keep protesters out, prepared for what sources called ``a showdown.''
In the end, the squad from the FDLE and the Department of Children & Families backed down, apparently concerned about confronting local police outside the hospice.
''We told them that unless they had the judge with them when they came, they were not going to get in,'' said a source with the local police.
''The FDLE called to say they were en route to the scene,'' said an official with the city police who requested anonymity. ``When the sheriff's department and our department told them they could not enforce their order, they backed off.''
The incident, known only to a few and related to The Herald by three different sources involved in Thursday's events, underscores the intense emotion and murky legal terrain that the Schiavo case has created. It also shows that agencies answering directly to Gov. Jeb Bush had planned to use a wrinkle in Florida law that would have allowed them to legally get around the judge's order. The exception in the law allows public agencies to freeze a judge's order whenever an agency appeals it.

Really please enligthen me. There was a time when the unPC thoughts of the day were considered crimes but since we do that today things really haven't changed much.
God, county, family.
10-4 pig pen.....guess those smokies were not getting within miles of that hospice........"over".....
Ups .... county=country
praise the lord and pass the ammunition.........
I hoped he was kidding...do you suppose he wasn't?
:-)
Hmmm... let's see. How about the various wars that ravaged Europe for centuries? Chrisitians killing christians over who was worshiping God the right way, or the various inquisitions? Or the various Crusades? Perhaps the various "expeditions" to the new world, where "savages" were killed so that they might be saved etc... Thousands upon thousands upon thousands of innocent killed, all by those purporting to do it in the name of Christ and God...
Sure, we've gotten past that in the past few hundred years, but even Christianity, with it's message of hope and salvation, still has blood on it's hands from the past...
haha....I think I pissed off God's surrogate a while back, either that or it was one of his archangels.....*shiver*....*shudder*....
Anyone who knows God can speak His word. Don't tremble before me as a mere man. But do tremble before His word!
Ah, what the hey, I'm ready to a 180 here. Why don't we send in the Delta Force to go in there and blow the living crapola out of everything, and if anybody gets in their way, shoot 'em all and let God sort them out. And on the way to the airport with this freed hostage, why doesn't the POTUS have the A-Team drag her miserable, cheating, lying adulterous 'husband' behind their Humvee in plain sight of his so-called 'common-law wife' and their young, illegitimate children. Then tell me, by God, WWJD?
And, I have yet to see anyone to refute what I have said about what would happen if Jeb defies the court. He will not be tried in court for that; rather they will have to ask the Legislature to impeach. And Jeb has clear Florida statute on that matter.
since he wants a theocracy or at least sounds like it, those folks you mentioned are not welcome in the U.S. or those of their ilk.....they will be much disillsioned to know that the Bible should be the guiding light of all "real" Americans......//sarc off
WWJD? Well, tell the soldiers to earn a honest living while soldiering, among other things.
Agreed. Is everybody ready for that? Is saving her life worth impeachment. These are the question that JB has to answer for himself.I feel slightly better knowing that he is a man of faith and is fully aware to whom he is really accountable in the end.
I count myself lucky to not have to make that decision.
It's interesting that those throwing around the phrases like "bloodthirsty murderers" etc... are the ones with the most bloodlust... sigh...
This is what Benjamin Framklin was talking about, when he said we had to keep it. I don't think that "Don't just stand there, do something!" is the answer, but neither am I willing to throw my hands up. D@mnit, they work for me, not the other way around.
This is not the first time things seemed hopeless. We'll figure out what to do. Sadly, it doesn't appear it will be in time to save Terri.
We knew we would have to take back the third branch of government. Let's get on with it. Terri is one casualty of that war.
Good point......of course I'm sure there is a logical explanation at hand....*smirk*
