All options should be considered to prevent rampages like the Minnesota school shooting that took 10 lives -- including making guns available to teachers, a top National Rifle Association leader said Friday.
"I'm not saying that that means every teacher should have a gun or not, but what I am saying is we need to look at all the options at what will truly protect the students," the NRA's first vice president, Sandra S. Froman, told The Associated Press.
Gun-control restrictions would not have prevented Jeff Weise, 16, from killing nine people and himself Monday at Red Lake High School near Bemidji, Minn., said Froman, an attorney expected next month to be elected president of the NRA, which claims 4 million members.
The presence of an unarmed guard at the school failed to stop the siege, she noted.
"No gun law, no policy that you could implement now or that was already implemented, I think, could possibly prevent someone so intent on destruction," she said. "I think everything's on the table as far as looking at what we need to do to make our schools safe for our students."
Froman said if it is the responsibility of teachers to protect students in a school, "then we as a society, we as a community have to provide a way for the teachers to do that."

If teachers want to have guns, then students should be able to carry one as well. I would hate to piss off any teacher in class who is packing heat.
Apparently the account has been destroyed by forum management. I wasn't around to read the posts past, oh, 22 or so, so I don't know what happened. Apparently someone pulled the sign-up date and it was today, associated that with the contrarian opinion smyrna1967 posted, and...zot! I don't know if his/her/its posts after #22 got uncivil, but that's a surefire way to get oneself kicked off from what I've seen.
Personally I prefer to have civil discussions with disagreement. It's boring if everyone agrees and the only question is whether to issue all teachers M-4s or MP-5s.
It takes patience and tact, sure, but firearms rights weren't taken away in a day and they aren't going to come back in a day either.
Alienating people who disagree is a surefire way to not develop any more support... And it may become a self-fulfilling prophesy.
Well, exactly. The FFDO program, as flawed as it may be, is a model for protection in other areas.
If they were armed not as many would be getting beaten up, or don't you comprehend the term armed? Your statement is just a variation on the old worn out premise that you are "safer without a gun", or "it will just be taken away from you and used against you". Neither of these statements are true and yours isn't either.
That's going a bit too far, however, armed security guards should definitely be going around schools, and they should have guns...
That the job of the "community resource officer". As grim as it sounds, the job of the cop who hangs around the local high school is to kill any kid who starts shooting.
I vote MP-5's (suppressed) with five spare mags each. Collapsible stock. 1.5x ACOG sights, with tritium reticles.

Suppression is important - especially for the ones assigned to the library. :-) The tritium can be used as a teaching aid in physics class...
If I were a teacher in the public indoctrination gulags I'd carry and nobody would know.
Our security monitors are also unarmed and also extremely street-wise. But being the inner city school that we are, we also have several armed police officers on campus at any given moment. Usually they are serving warrants and making arrests, but they also cruise through to make sure everything is cool. I'd say a fair percentage of our student body has a record of one sort or another....Many are on probation. That's one reason they don't mess with me. I used to be a Probation & Parole Officer.
Is your argument so weak that you need to twist my words into a lie in order to win?
If your stupidity was an airstrip, an AC-130 could land on it.
Arm everyone, now it will be and awfully bloody first week or two but it should calm down after that.
That is a demonstrably false statement - many people, in America at the time of its founding, were not permitted access to guns.
The only silliness here is yours - the silliness that thinks everyone who's drawing breath should be permitted arms. Why don't you write letters of outrage to your state's department of corrections about their inmates not having arms? Complain about the unlawful combatants at Gitmo not being issued their AKs.
Your posts have studiously avoided the spirit of the conversation, just as all the judges starving Terri have studiously avoided the spirit of the law.
If that's how you want to claim victory, be my guest.
It only makes sense.
This sign is posted at my kids elementary school..when I pick them up I always stop by and kiss this sign..for this sign is the single most important reason my children have no exposure to illegal gunfire..for no murderer would want to violate this edict..all killers respect the law..even killer greer in florida..(sorry..had to throw that in)..
And your proposal is?
