A federal court hearing has started in one of the last effort attempts by Terri Schiavo's parents to restore their daughter's feeding tube.
But the judge already has turned down the parents once. Bob and Mary Schindler are asking for an emergency order to reinsert the feeding tube in the brain-damaged woman.
The hearing in Tampa is before U.S. District Judge James Whittemore. He turned the Schindlers down once, as did a federal appeals court and the Supreme Court. A state judge, a state appeals court and the Florida Supreme Court also have all come down on the side of the husband, who wants to let his wife die after 15 years in what some doctors call a vegetative state.
The latest defeat for the Schindlers was today when a state judge said he won't go along with Governor Jeb Bush's request to order the feeding tube reinserted. The governor had said that new allegations of abuse of Terri Schiavo need to be investigated. The governor also tried to challenged the diagnosis that Terri Schiavo is in a persistent vegetative state.
Bois has been very good on this case,,I wish the Schindlers had someone of his caliber. He thinks there should have been a de novo review on this important case.
He might, but as I said, no one has yet shown proof of that. If true, certainly Felos is more than clever enough to cover his tracks -- hospices are big business, after all. And when business interests are combined with the ideology of euthanasia, it's a poisonous mix.
At the very least, this should be a cautionary tale for any senior thinking of retiring to Florida -- and their children, if they value their parents.
OTOH, I wonder how many people knew this law existed before this case? I wonder how many people know what the laws in their particular state are regarding end-of-life measures?
Most of us don't want to think about death until we stare it in the face, either in a mirror -- or in the face of someone we hold dear. What used to be a family decision by consensus has now become a decision that can be made by physicians, or forced into the courts by law, and we know how compassionate the law has been in this case.
I suspect that the polls reflect the fact that most people don't even want to think about the end of their lives, and so don't want to think what the Shiavo case may mean for them.
Did you know there's been a coup here at FR? Peach announced it in 161.
On Post #319 I almost lost it and told him where to go in not a nice way! :)
I have been a huge Hannity basher in the past. After the hearing him on this subject last week, I sent him an e-mail apologizing and thanking him for his efforts.
I am now in Hannity-bashing withdrawal. It isn't easy, but he's earned it. ;-)
why should he have a hard time it did as much as the law will allow to just go in and take her is political suicide on his part REALITY IS NOT THAT STUPID.bottom line its over get over it.state said no feds said no ussc says no.do not blame bush he tried. time to let this women die with some dignity
Will Jeb Bush follow God's Law
Or the "law" of men/women in black robes?
A man who has had a father who was President
and a brother who is President
comes from a good family.
Pray that Jeb follows his heart and not the polls.
He has nothing to lose
And only his soul to keep.
Did you read post #319? It was almost worth telling him where to go! Well at least now he knows how I feel and I am not getting banned!
Good Lord man, GWB was elected president of all of the people not just you and people who think like you. He is supposed to serve the public and the interests of this country and not be held in fear by the judiciary.
You want a king? A preacher?
I wish I could type fast enough to type everything they are saying but I am not able to. I did hear them say something about liberals and I (think) it was something like they don't feel Federal Government should get envolved.
Bwahahahahahahahahaha! Only when it is Clinton and Janet Reno kidnapping Alian Gonzalez.
Correction #349!
A coup? By who?
I don't know.
Hospice and euthanaia are partners. Hospice is to make people comfortable while they die. And believe me, they use morphine to hasten death.
The worrisome partners would be euthanasia and hospitals or nursing homes.
Any one who calls or goes to hospice knows death is near and will be hastened.
Maybe it was a "coupe". Didn't JimRob get a car part or something at the Freeper's Ball? ;-)
The Schindlers were so dignified and composed despite their grief, how they managed to not swear at that little minion is beyond me.
I was screaming at my TV, my daughter was scared I think and at 15 she doesn't scare easy.
I bit my tounge for 349
