US House of Rep. in an Extraordinary Sunday night Session [Schiavo] (Bush Signs Schiavo bill)
Posted on 03/20/2005 6:03:40 PM PST by FoxPro
This is an unprecedented session. The Congress is meeting to save one persons life (in real time).
The only reason the Democrats are agreeing to this is that they dont want to be known as the party that killed Terri.
This is American history happening before your eyes.

Federal courts pride themselves on not being the bordello of state trial courts.
Those were federalism issues. The federal courts are famous for trampling on federalism. This is a separation of powers issue. The Judicial Oligarchy at all levels will be loathe to surrender any of their absolute power to the other two vestigial appendages of government.

Truly the Democrat (gay) party. - I object to that. There's nothing relating homosexuality to killing innocent women. I have several gay friends, and they are all appalled by what the Democrats (and Mr. Schiavo) are trying to do to Terri.
I think that Mr. Frank's general stupidity is what is relevant, not whatever he does in his bedroom.

Hmm. Interesting - seems to be a disparity between the screen name and comments. Either way, they've been a FReeper a long time.

"The only other option for changing Roe vs. Wade would be, extralegally, which seems to be what you might advocate, overthrowing the judiciary in some fashion."
The judiciary has already overthrown the system, they are always making laws out of thin air, not based upon what the Constitution states......

Today, I signed into law a bill that will allow Federal courts to hear a claim by or on behalf of Terri Schiavo for violation of her rights relating to the withholding or withdrawal of food, fluids, or medical treatment necessary to sustain her life. In cases like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. This presumption is especially critical for those like Terri Schiavo who live at the mercy of others. I appreciate the bipartisan action by the Members of Congress to pass this bill. I will continue to stand on the side of those defending life for all Americans, including those with disabilities.
Mount Rushmore... definitely!

Since I have had to deal with FL hospices in a very real tangible way I know exactly what I speak of.

I can understand those who believe she is brain-dead... Have you viewed any of the video tape clips of her responding to her environment? Even casual observation from a layman confirms she is not "brain dead".

The feeding tube isn't re-inserted yet. Plus even when it is, it might be pulled again should the federal courts decide the new law is unconstitutional.
So this fight will continue, I'm afraid.

You're making stuff up. Scalia is not a positivist.

If our beloved president gets to appoint some new Supreme Court judges they themselves could overturn Roe v Wade. After all Jane Doe reversed her position. I cried when that decision came down at the loss of innocent life, but it was tears of joy when the decision came to end the FL fiasco.
