US House of Rep. in an Extraordinary Sunday night Session [Schiavo] (Bush Signs Schiavo bill)
Posted on 03/20/2005 6:03:40 PM PST by FoxPro
This is an unprecedented session. The Congress is meeting to save one persons life (in real time).
The only reason the Democrats are agreeing to this is that they dont want to be known as the party that killed Terri.
This is American history happening before your eyes.

That is a great question!! I guess those who want her to die want to make it harder on her and not leave an "opening" so to speak for restart.
I cannot believe how inhumane this woman is being treated. Normally, one would think the lst thing you would want to do is try to get her to ingest orally therefore not needing a tube, but they are not even allowed to try that!! This is incredible.

Oh no... our new Dave Reichert voted against? What could he have been thinking? If so I will be calling his office tomorrow morning... This is devastating. And I can't vote for him if so.

She is wrong!
All families have won tonight!

And you bootlick the blackrobes.
It is time for the Bork amendment to the constitution. I.e. 2/3 of both houses of Congress may overturn any court decision in the land. If we had the Bork amendment, we wouldn't be worrying about any more courts anymore tonight.

True, but only because they allow it. Many things happen in gov't only because no one objects. They could, but they choose not too.

There's an old saying;
If you marry a man who cheats on his wife, that's exactly what you've got.
Of course, you could exchange "cheats" for a lot of other words, too.
If I were her, I'd learn to sleep lightly and with one eye open.

The president is a man of character and values.
Agreed. Once again, it was a class act of the highest order when the President returned to Washington so that he would be ready to sign this legislation. The words "culture of life" mean something when President George W. Bush says them.

Well your facts are wrong again Dear Lady.
The decision was 7 to 9. What the 5 to 4 Decision reflects is the split on what SOLUTION to impose on the Florida Court. The claim that the SC was the "Final arbiter" is completely inaccurate. The final arbiter was Al Gore who decided to abide by the SC decision rather then pursue additional legal remedies. What the SC did was direct the Fla court, 4 members of which donated money to the Gore campaign, to find an alternate solution then the Florida Court dictated solution of allowing revotes to be pursued in 3 Democrat controlled Florida counties. The SC did NOT decide the 2000 election, Al Gore did by conceding. I know facts are painful for the Hysteric Left but they don't change just because you find them emotionally uncomfortable.

How many Democrat congressmen did not vote because their offices were deluged by emails and phone calls by passionate Terri/life supporters?
I see mine did not vote--heh heh.

My understanding is that before the SCOTUS refused to hear the case because it did not have the jurisdiction to hear it, this bill now gives the federal courts the necessary jurisdiction. It was only turned down before because it
was a state matter, now thanks to the congress it is a federal matter.
To: flaglady47
I'll bet you liked it when the U.S. Supreme Court (the final arbiter) decided in favor of Bush (by stopping the ballot count in FL) over Gore. I thought that was a more honest decision than the two that the SCOFLA punted, cherry picking their way through Florida election law.

Even Art Bell on "Coast to Coast AM" is supporting Terri - he says that absent a signed Living Will, you should err on the side of life!
