US House of Rep. in an Extraordinary Sunday night Session [Schiavo] (Bush Signs Schiavo bill)
Posted on 03/20/2005 6:03:40 PM PST by FoxPro
This is an unprecedented session. The Congress is meeting to save one persons life (in real time).
The only reason the Democrats are agreeing to this is that they dont want to be known as the party that killed Terri.
This is American history happening before your eyes.

That's a great post!
I've been praying for a while, but I'll join that little fella for another prayer.

I find myself shocked to say this, but I think I just heard the lowest the dems. have yet gone. Mel Watts. He is just despicable.
To: Ethrane
Terri Schiavo is more intelligent than Mel Watt

It was nice of Mel Watt to demonstrate for us the proverbial 'PVS'.
Terri has more brain function than Mel.

"May as well, while we're overriding state legislatures and state courts."
Congress will vindicate the will of the Florida legislature, which was overridden by an out-of-control state judiciary. Congress' power here is clear under the 14th Amendment. It silly to think that Congress must sit back while a conflicted state trial court imposes a death fiat on a human being.

The thing I found most interesting was that he started his rant by declaring that he himself has a living will.
Hey brainiac, Terri doesn't. That's kind of the point, dude.

dang...I love Sensenbrenner. He has answered every single one of the dems claims with facts. Go get em!!

"This guy is a moron....Watt is 'not' intelligent."
Can we withold food and water from him because his brain is dead. My taxpayer money paying his salary is a waste of money.

Did you just hear Sensenbrenner say that if you don't feed a dog food or water you can be fined $5000 in Florida? But you cannot feed a woman food and water and be okay -- something is wrong here.

"She shouldn't necessarily be starved to death but instead taken off the feeding tube"
Well, which is it? Should she be starved to death or shouldn't she be starved to death? Either she is starved to death by being taken off the feeding tube, or she shouldn't be starved by being taken off the feeding tube.

"After hearing Watts, I now know exactly what a persistent vegetative state looks like."
LOL
Watt is stuck on stupid! He just shot himself and his party in the head.

Paging sinkspur; please pick up the courtesy phone and take a stand for death or life.
Do you or do you not advocate starving Terri Schiavo?

LOL! I was practically ostracized from the family when I registered Republican at 18 (REAGAN YEARS). The whole family was mortified.
I think that Ronald Reagan embodied the OLD Democratic party. (FLAME GUARD ON!) It's amazing how the parties have switched positions over the years. I blame it on the socialists hijacking of the Democrat party.
(I too refuse to refer to them as the "Democratic" party any longer! Democrats = Socialists!)

you have a good opportunity to evangelize here Deacon. Some reps quoted Pope John Paul II. Why dont you offer up some Church statements and or teaching to all here?

Jumped to the last of this thread for the latest so sorry if this was covered elsewhere accurately.
My personal pet theory is that it was always murky how she had the heart attack, or if it was one. There has been raised the specter of abuse.
Say that Michale Shiavo choked her or deprived her of oxygen and she went into the coma but didn't die. It would explain the lack of rehabilitative treatment offered and the refusal to give custody to the parents or take the money. If she recovers she can finger him and he goes to prison. Only if she dies is he truly free. He could have divorced her long ago and moved on.
Now, taking the opposite tack. What if he really believes what he says? He is sticking to his guns to fulfill his duty to his wife. He knows she will never recover and has moved on with another woman with his own life while fulfilling his duty to the woman he married. It is a possibility. But, with all his comments about the religious right and the President he sounds like a typical lib. This means he doesn't care about right and wrong, duty, love, or anything that doesn't have to do with him first. So while a possibility, I don't think it is likely.

I am tired of poll-driven politics, too. I was just making a point that the Republicans are not just cynically using this as a political issue, which is what they were being accused of. Yes, I was aware of that.*grin*
