President's Statement on Terri Schiavo
The White House ^
| 3-17-2005
| George W. Bush
Posted on 03/18/2005 3:32:37 PM PST by BobS
The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.

Why not starve the prisoners on death row? "
Let's start with Christopher Reeves. His wheelchair is inconvenient, and he's a burden for us. He won't live a better life while his body wastes away.

The sovereignty of states is more important than the life of any individual, and is designed to protect the lives of hundreds of millions of individuals. "
You forgot something. The lawmakers of a State have been denied their responsibilities by a judge.

As best as I can tell, Terri never asked Greer to condemn her to death.

And yea, it is cruel and unusual, it could be faster except for Tyrannical laws that restrict the use of poisons or anything else.No doubt a little Zyclon B would improve their efficiency down there in Florida.
Bullets are faster yet.

Yes, keep this one bumped up. Even though I screwed up the title yesterday. This is an important subject for us.

Uhmm, Bob, Chris Reeves died several months back. Pick a new one and start keeping up with the news..

How about Robert Byrd? You can't really call his spastic verbalizations a sign of any real cognitive functioning can you? It can't be anything but the random firing of synapses in the hollow shell of a body long bereft of a human mind. Let the old geezer die already!

If Terri dies this time, we get a legal precedent
Precedent-- exactly my worry. People who expect the President to step outside of his constitutional powers to act are urging the creation of a precedent-- a precedent dangerous to our entire nation and many more people than just one or a few.
In this case, someone below the level of President can act or the President can act within his powers.

"
How about Robert Byrd?"
But he has talent. The KKK Revival speech he gave before the Moveon.org crowd last week was disgracefully funny.

Not that I disagree with you about Robert Byrd's verbalizations, but your post is off the wall. Been up all night?

Oh, yeah. Easy way to fix that is to hit the abuse button on
your thread and request the Mod correct the title. I just did that for you. They may not, since it's not my thread.
But if they don't, you can if you'd like and they would I bet.
