The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.

So NJ, I guess you would be in favor of Florida having Sharia as the basis of its legal system? After all, its their state, if they want Sharia they ought to be able to have it. Should the states have the right to be ruled by tyrants, if the people of the state want it? How about cannibalism, should the citizens of a state have the right to devour other citizens as a "states' right", if the majority want it? States' rights never trump the right of the individual to life.

I would. I really would, because I have a lot more respect for people who have the courage to ACT on their beliefs rather than just riding a keyboard.

The 14th amendment allows Feds to intervene only if petitioner has been denied due process at the state level. I don't agree with the Florida court's decision, but she has had due process.

Maybe people who want to save an innocent life. That swine of a husband of Terri's would be arrested if he starved a puppy to death, but he can have another human being starved to death and some of you start hiding behind the "states' rights" banner. Give me a friggin' break. Stop thinking like a doctrinaire hack and get a damn heart.

That is what I understood you to be saying. But I thought you did not support the 'jack-booted thugs'. And then I was wondering if the white lab coats/black robes were the 'thugs' in the 'TS' case - the doctors and the judges?

I haven't suggested vigilante action, you brought it up, so you can keep your respect for somebody who justs jumps at your ideas and takes off. If you're looking for somebody to tell if it's "time yet" then you're still looking. My suggestion is that the President use the power he has and protects the values and principles he was elected to protect.
