The case of Terri Schiavo raises complex issues. Yet in instances like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favor of life. Those who live at the mercy of others deserve our special care and concern. It should be our goal as a nation to build a culture of life, where all Americans are valued, welcomed, and protected - and that culture of life must extend to individuals with disabilities.
And the judge. It will take time for him to find out they know everything about him and his family. I heard it's like an FBI background check- I had one. They talked to people I haven't seen in years! I passed- whew!!
Yes..."one nation under God" ceases to be applicable when a defenseless person can be killed as a matter of convenience
wbo were they ? and what is their connection to her and her family?
In this case -- in the circumstances we find ourselves in today.
It is my understanding that three people testified IN COURT that she made those statements. It wasn't just her husband.
Geez, I have NO idea; I'm stating what I heard today for the first time.
Are the only people in this case that are telling the truth in HER family?
There's no need for it here!
connected to michael schiavo?
i would say that HER family would be a bit more likely to have her interests at heart, just offhand. i assure you, if this had happened to my husband while his sister was dying of breast cancer, he would be in jail for murdering his brotherinlaw. he says so himself.
Is there anything some won't twist into "it's Bush's fault"?
My advice to the loudmouthed bullies on this thread is to get their fat rears out to Florida and form a human blockade. I think we should hold all of them responsible for inaction if they fail to do this.
Terri is not a vegetable, contrary to what you've been told. She is a very special woman whose (real) family loves her very much and would do anything to be with her, and take her into their home.
Now that its' something you want the Supremes are ok with you?
Yes, a husband, now one in-name-only as he is living in open adultery, who claimed prior to getting the insurance settlement that he had no clue as to what Terri wished. And then after the moolah comes in, he suddenly finds a personal recollection of what he had no clue about, as well as family of HIS (none of HERS) who begin to claim the same.
It is, of course, fishier than a mackerel that has sat in the market for a week. But nobody on Howlin's bus wants to acknowledge the elephant in the living room, but rather only give kudos to how finely the legal engineering went that has brought Terri to this pass.
Leave personalities out of it and try to discuss the issue.
in ANY legal proceeding, anyone with the conflicts of interest that this HUSBAND has would be discredited in a NANOsecond. but here we should yank someone's feeding tube on his say-so.
Why do you suggest he shouldn't make the statement now just because you think it should have been made before? Though I doubt you agree with the statement. You're one of those people who say if we can't take out every dictator in the world we shouldn't have touched Saddam.
Jeb didn't get involved until we got on his ass in 2003.
The government gets involved in saving one life. Seems like something smells here---isn't this the same government that allows the murder of millions of babies?
We ARE the Jackboots, Howlin, who'd you think we were?
The battle lines are drawn over "Life" again. Just look at who are supporting her death and who are supporting her life. PUT YOURSELF ON ONE SIDE OF THE LINE OR THE OTHER.
What the HELL is that suppose to mean?
I'll tell you something, we, as a Nation, have put ourselves in this position. We turned a blind eye to the slaughter of millions upon millions of the most precious and innocent among us. And this is just the beginning of the monster turning upon his creator. The confluence of politics, economics and this horrendous and established precedent will take us to that brave new world in a way our forefathers would have beheld hell.
Any people really jealous of their liberty would have started the process of impeaching judges years ago, beginning with Blackmun; would not have put these pro-death people into power, decade after decade.
If she is allowed to be offed, nobody is going to be safe in the future, and it may not even be a real distant future.
Someone else has been allowed to decide whether his spouse lives or dies, and the government is not supposed to be able to do anything about it? She is being starved to death, and the government is not supposed to be able to do anything about it? So, you can't testify against your spouse, but you can kill her? It is a peak of madness that we have asked for, and been granted.
