**Exclusive Fri Mar 18 2005 00:50:07 ET** The Chairman of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pension (HELP) Committee, Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming) has requested Terri Schiavo to testify before his congressional committee, the DRUDGE REPORT has learned. In so doing it triggers legal or statutory protections for the witness, among those protections is that nothing can be done to cause harm or death to this individual.
The only neurologist to testify that Terri is not in Persistent Vegetative State was the controversial neurologist hired by the Schindlers after the appellate court ordered a new trial on this case.
The Schindlers were asked to provide two neurologists or neurosurgeons, but they presented only one to the court. Their neurologist is published in peer-reviewed National Enquirer, and faced disciplinary proceedings in both Florida and California.
At any rate, as the Florida Second District of Appeals stated in June 2003:
Although the physicians are not in complete agreement concerning the extent of Mrs. Schiavo's brain damage, they all agree that the brain scans show extensive permanent damage to her brain. The only debate between the doctors is whether she has a small amount of isolated living tissue in her cerebral cortex or whether she has no living tissue in her cerebral cortex. All the other neurologists testified that Terri was in Persistent Vegetative State. Michael Schiavo provided two board-certified neurologists, and the trial court appointed Dr. Peter Bambakidis, a board-certified neurologist practicing in the Department of Neurology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio. He is a clinical professor of neurology at Case Western Reserve University.
Therefore, the consensus among the neurological experts is that Terri is PVS.
"I hope that if I was like that, my husband would do exactly what Mr. Schiavo is doing."
No argument from me on that. Your business.
People are jumping on you over that? We need to take a deep breath, here.
...NOT if it's in their expert opinion....
I just heard on FOX that Judge Greer is having a hearing at 12:30. Can he block the subpoena's?
Anyone know what this hearing is about. They did not elaborate. I thought that the subpoena's now make it a federal crime if the tube is removed.
You have a problem with us fighting for all Americans - healthy, weak, poor?
Why doesn't Michael Schiavo let the parents take care of her?
Why fight it? Why the fuss, I mean Michael didn't wait for the "...Death do us part"...bit. He's commiting adultery!
If he loved Terri, he would be there until the end. Nope, he left her!
The solution is very simple - have a living will. It doesn't cost much.
The delusions that are being indulged in this matter are getting stranger by the minute.
"We have the medical technology and expertise to accurately and truthfully determine Terri's condition."
Then there is the question of her husband's credibility. To me, it's a hopeless case right there. Without credibility, what does it matter what he said about his wife's wishes?
Interesting point that Judge Greer has a conflict.
Hubby and I have had Living Wills
for AGES, as well as a Family Trust.
LOL! Jumping on me does not come close to what I have been through here on FR for daring to just state facts! Oh well.
I believe it is about delaying the removal of the tube due to the subpeona, thus overriding the 1:00 deadline set by the other judge.
You understand my point...
Come on people, see my post 745. Anyone have any answers for this?
George...nobody here cares about the facts! I'm also convinced the majority of people here don't even know the whole background. They're latecomers who see this is a way of advancing their pro-life agenda. Common sense tell you that after 15 years the Dr.'s know the condition of this woman. Why doens't that common sense prevail here?
My students are watching the news on FOX right now. They can not believe that they are going to stop feeding her. The kids asked if we could keep the tv on until the interview/decision. I am going to oblige them.
The the power of Congressional subpoenas is violated by having the tube removed, I would have the US Marhsal arrest them on the spot.
Leave something in writing stating your preferences. However, it should be noted that she never told anyone (except her untrustworthy "husband") that she wanted to die, and I'll bet she never told anyone that she wanted to die a slow death by starvation.
In any event, we don't know what she would have wanted, because she never told anyone who could be trusted. We only know that as a Catholic, it would be highly unlikely she would choose death over life--and as the thinking human being she was before becoming incapacitated, it was even more unlikely she would choose to die via starvation.
One thing this incident has accmplished--I've filled out my living will, and left explicit instructions as to what I want done should I fall into a vegetative state (I mean a real one). I've spelled it all out. So has Dear Hubby. No one will have any doubts, as they do in this case.
I agree. And I have to say, Boortz makes a very compelling argument. It's an extremely complicated issue.
This issue should not be about opinions - it should be about facts. The problem is, as I said in my other post to you, Boortz is arguing opinions, not facts. He needs to do his homework on this first.
