Mexican president announces initiative for North American cooperation
Fort Worth Star-Telegram/AP ^ | March 16, 2005 | John Rice

MEXICO CITY - The leaders of the United States, Mexico and Canada, confronting the growth of rival groups in Europe and Asia, hope to strengthen their free-trade pact by signing an "Initiative for North America" next week in Texas, Mexico President Vicente Fox said Wednesday.

But Fox made clear that tensions remain over how to secure the countries' borders, criticizing new U.S. walls running along parts of its 2,000-mile frontier with Mexico. "No country that is proud of itself should build walls," he said.

Fox, President Bush and Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin are scheduled to meet March 23 at Bush's Crawford, Texas, ranch during Bush's Easter vacation.

. . . .

Speaking at a news conference with U.S. and Canadian reporters, Fox vowed to take legal action against migrant-hunting vigilantes in Arizona and promised to fight terrorism.

. . .

But in both Spanish and English, Fox repeatedly expressed concern about state initiatives to limit rights of migrants and services for them in the United States, and about the U.S. government's effort to slow migration by building walls.

"We are convinced that walls don't work. They should be torn down," Fox said. He called the walls "discriminatory; they attack liberty. So no country that is proud of itself should build walls. Nobody can isolate himself these days."

. . .

He said Mexicans "totally reject" the migrant hunters recently formed in Arizona to help stem the illegal crossings there, which have risen partly because of the construction of walls elsewhere. The vigilantes "are completely in violation of American law itself and in violation of laws anywhere," Fox said.

He said Mexico "will be very alert to react legally against any lawbreaking" by those groups, either under U.S. or international law.

How about that? Another country's president telling us that it is illegal for us to show patriotism? That we have no right to protest the criminal activities of his citizens within our borders?

Join me in praying that our President does not make any statements denouncing our patriots at this March 23 meeting.

He's absolutely correct! All in favor of building electrified fences instead, raise your hands! :-)

Priceless. From the only world leader who prides himself on his policy of exporting his own people.

This wacko Fox guy has it all wrong--he is the President of MEXICO, not the USA, and we do not have to listen to him and I am furious that he thinks he can---

"No country that is proud of itself builds walls"...hmm, could be a reference to Israel...so he could also be anti-semitic, but even if he isn't---

isn't there a saying about "fences make for good neighbors" or something like that?

Wouldn't you if you were Fox? It's not exactly the contributing members to the Mexican economy that are fleeing. It would be like us being able to drop off the folks on our welfare roles in the laps of Canada. All in favor, raise your hands! :-)

It would be too much of a drag on the rest of the country....not unlike taking on Puerto Rico.

Typical ass Roach mentality!! Maybe stems from an inferiority complex initiated a long time ago from when the British kept hitting them on the head and taking all their gold.

Too bad. I haven't heard a good string of blue language (other than my own) since Veteran's Day when I got together with some of my old buddies.

No a waste of energy. Put two fences with large rather hungery dogs in between. A little barbed wire would not hurt either.

Think creatively! We still electrify, but sell the naming rights to the highest bidding company!
