Pittsburgh (KDKA) A deadly shooting outside Carrick High School this afternoon has put the school on lockdown.
Officials have confirmed that one student is dead and two others were wounded in the shooting around 2pm.
According to authorities, police stopped a car outside the school and were running a check on its license plate when another vehicle pulled up and started shooting at the car.
One juvenile in the car was shot in the head and killed; a second juvenile was critically injured by gunshots. A third juvenile in the car was injured by flying glass. Authorities believe all three were Carrick High School students.
Police say the shooting may have involved an AK-47.
As a precaution, students have been kept inside the building past their normal 2:17pm dismissal while police officers swarmed the area; but they're expected to be released within the hour.
More than 1300 students in ninth through twelfth grades are enrolled at Carrick High School, which is located on Parkfield Street.
Carrick is in the South Hills. It's part of the city of Pgh., but outlying, in between Mt. Oliver & Brentwood. it's not anywhere near Kennywood!

Norwegians with a dep ski tan, I guess.
You and Sara Brady have the same definition of "common sense".
Obviously I must use the constitution for toilet paper since I disagree with how broadly it be intepreted on a single issue.
The Federalist Papers specifically specify the intent of the 2nd Amendment and define the term "arms". What is to argue here, other than the fact that you join Al Gore in calling for a "living Constitution"?
I was browsing some gun threads on DU the other day. Most of the DUmbasses are better on gun issues than you. That should tell you something.
Groan...here we go again.
The Founding Fathers fought a war using their own arms, including personally-owned cannon and battleships. They wrote the 2nd Amendment without any restriction on size, and did so to ensure the people could, if need be, take on the gov't. The Constitution allows Congress to grant "Letters of Marque", permitting private citizens to take on foreign powers with their own presumably large-scale arms. Yes, the big stuff is crew-served and expensive and rare; absolutely nothing the Founding Fathers ever wrote indicated approval of any limitations on arms ownership of any kind.
The point of the 2nd Amendment is to permit the people the ability to take on attackers/tyrrants of any degree. Remember: the Founding Fathers took on the world's military superpower of the day - the thought of limiting the 2nd Amendment to one-man arms would have been absolutely preposterous to those who used their own cannons and battleships to win their freedom.
There is NO good reason for AK-47's to be "on the streets".
Waddup G
Whites do the berserker thing, blacks do drive-by's. Don't be offended that a drive-by was thought to be a dark crime.
I may be wrong, but I thought the AK-47 was a true selective-fire "assault" rifle (Sturmgewehr). Maybe it was really a semi-auto AK variant, but the press is trying to hysteria-ize the gun issue to whip up support of reinstating the poorly named "assault weapon" ban.
I said "Kind of" moreover its 7 miles away :P
I mapquested it....I was clearly just trying to give them a clear idea of where ;)
Thanks for proving my point with a lot of knee-jerk bullcrap. Never mind my opposition to 99% of gun control, my strong advocacy for control-carry, no, because I don't get my panties in a wad over restricting access to AK-47's and rocket launchers I'm automatically no different in my views than Sarah Brady, Al Gore, or the DU.
What an idiot.
It was good enough for Michael Skakel.
If you listen to the media you would assume that the AK-47 is the world's most popular and most deadly gun.
Why would a cop speculate as to what specific make / model of weapon was used?
If they did say what weapon they thought was used and it was anything other than an AK-47 do you think the media would have printed it?
I think not.
In the face of conspiracy types, I always contended legislators bided their time to introduce bills immediately after such events. Funny, the order was reversed this time...coincidence or planning? hate to consider...
Yes, a bazooka shouldn't be used by an individual. A bazooka requires a two man team.
2. Many folks in these urban sh-tholes are disqualified from owning firearms of any kind anyway due to "prior convictions." Their guns are often obtained illegally.
Don't place restriction
I'm not in new york, but possibly yes.
You'd better act fast, though- NY is contemplating a new assault weapon ban that will outlaw a bunch more guns.
Do you think all semiautomatic rifles should be banned, or just the scary-sounding ones you've heard about on TV?
SD
We have the right to bear ARMS. These are military weapons. In the Revolutionary War and even the Cival War, arms including artillery were supplied by those who organized the militias, not the government.
