Pittsburgh (KDKA) A deadly shooting outside Carrick High School this afternoon has put the school on lockdown.
Officials have confirmed that one student is dead and two others were wounded in the shooting around 2pm.
According to authorities, police stopped a car outside the school and were running a check on its license plate when another vehicle pulled up and started shooting at the car.
One juvenile in the car was shot in the head and killed; a second juvenile was critically injured by gunshots. A third juvenile in the car was injured by flying glass. Authorities believe all three were Carrick High School students.
Police say the shooting may have involved an AK-47.
As a precaution, students have been kept inside the building past their normal 2:17pm dismissal while police officers swarmed the area; but they're expected to be released within the hour.
More than 1300 students in ninth through twelfth grades are enrolled at Carrick High School, which is located on Parkfield Street.

I'm undecided on all semi-auto's, because I don't know enough, and get the idea that the term is for a broad category, with a wide range of differences within that class. Something that is easily upgradeable to automatic might be of concern. It just depends.

Yes, those nasty AK-47s. What kind of parents would raise such naughty AK-47s.

I'm disappointed that a freeper would even consider regulating semi-auto rifles. Wow.

Machine guns have been banned since the National Firearms Act of 1934.
Only under heavy scrutiny and licensing can law enforcement purchase automatic firearms, or serious collectors possess them.

But machine guns and their "virtual equivalents" have been all but banned since the National Firearms Act of 1934. All that we have left are guns that look like machine guns that cannot be legally converted to fire full auto. All the AWB was was a ban on "ugly, evil-looking guns." The BATFE siezes *parts kits* (these are just an assembly of parts, missing the significant critical parts needed to make it a functional firearm - like the frame or receiver, and usually a couple more) that *might* be *"somewhere, possibly, if we superglued everything together and tied things together with zip ties and beat on it with a hammer while pulling the trigger while slamming it on the table, capable of firing more than one round per trigger pull". Don't even get me started on what they do if you have a defective weapon that has the firing pin get stuck. There has only been one murder committed in the US with a legal fully automatic weapon since 1934. It was a crooked Miami cop who appropriated his department issued weapon while doing drug deals. Chances are that this weapon will be an illegally modified weapon, illegally possessed, and illegally used. How is more legislation supposed to stop this again?

But I also don't get worked up if some machine guns or virtual equivalents do get restricted. Do you know what a "machine gun" is? Do you know what "automatic" and "semiautomatic" mean? Do you know the difference between a true "assault weapon" and what the media would like you to believe?
If you are simply ignorant, just say so. It's better than typing out nonsense about a semi-automatic rifle being the "virtual equivalent" to a machine gun.

Not much fear of the law here? That's my reaction.... Somebody chooses to commit a drive-by murder with a cop present?

i am getting a working knowledge of where it is now, thanks! the hockey tourney was actually over in the South Hills, so believe me, it felt bizarre to travel to my HOMETOWN and still not know where the stuff is located, bc i literally NEVER went over to that side. i got a little bit more familiar with the South Hills after the last two hockey trips. Great shopping over there! and NO SALES TAX IN PA, always a mental incentive for me to spend!

This hype will be happening more and more leading up to the new gun legislation in Congress. Take nothing the media says at face value when it comes to this.

The shooter is still at large. Police were looking for a late-1990s or early-2000s green or teal-colored car with a sunroof, possibly a Buick LeSabre or Buick Park Avenue. At least two black males were believed to be inside. OK - How did this happen?

I just used Yahoo maps to find it. I've never been there myself. I can get to Kennywood and the Waterfront from Westmoreland County, but I couldn't find anything else south of the Mon.
