Well, as far as I am concerned she will never receive my vote. Personally, I wince everytime I hear the terms "pro-choice" and "pro-life." No matter what word games a person choses to play. You are either for abortion or against it, or you are just plain confused.

I am anti-abortion. I consider abortion to be infanticide. No one should ever have the "choice" to legally comment infanticide. So, even though she is OK as Sec State. She can forget being the Republican nominee. Also, I find myself getting really ticked at President Bush setting her up to run for president.

One final zinger - even remotely suggesting she holds "libertarian" views makes her obnoxious to me. There are two groups on this forum that I just can't abide - hard core atheistic/naturalistic evolutionists and libertarians.

I hope that when the time comes we're not actually stupid enough to set up a showdown between Condi and Hitlery 2008. In doing so we'd just be putting a Democrat in the White House. There's a great deal of time until 2008, so I'm not going to worry about it for now.

Do the three exceptions make on 'slightly pro-choice'

Rape
Incest
Life of the mother

If she is on the ticket on '08, I'll either stay home or vote for the Constitution Party.

She would spell the total destruction of the GOP, as there prime core in the last few elections is evangelical Christians.

My motto is Pro-Choice: Will Kill for Sex

On that note, social conservatives need to understand that Rice or Clinton [gasp] will have little to no effect on overturning Roe V Wade. Note that even Pres Bush can't get his judicial nominees out for a floor vote.

The primary issue for the next decade is Terrorism, Immigration, Nuclear Proliferation. Condi is well suited to handle these issues.

Sitting out because of her position on abortion is grossly stupid. Perhaps thats why we are known as the Stupid Party.

I want to see the Washington Times interview before commenting on this.

That said, she's not my first choice anyway. Mark Sanford is.

Look people - no matter what your personal convictions are about abortion won't matter. The fact is that most conservative activists ARE anti-abortion and ALL of the religious conservative voters are very nearly single issue voters on abortion. If Rice doesn't change her position on this issue, she will be radioactive as far as most of these people are concerned. The idea of nominating a candidate with a built-in handicap is foolish - unless she changes here stance. If she does that, she will have the Oval Office for the taking. Her base shouldn't have to compromise - she should as their representative.

So the Republican party would rip out a major plank of their platform and run a pro-infanticide candidate in 08. I would hope the Republican party would never be so suicidal.

How many unborn children will be saved by staying home and allowing Hillary Clinton to be elected? And how many born children will die at the hands of terrorists if she is? I'd rather have a "mildly pro-choice" Condi Rice in office than a vehemently pro-Marxist Hillary Clinton.

IMO, there is nothing "libertarian" about denying an unborn child the right to life.

FYI, there is a big dispute among libertarians on this issue.

The only concept to which abortion (or more appropriately stated, the ending of pregnancy) may be even considered a right for a woman is in regards to self-defense ... and that concept extends to ending a rape pregnancy or that of a minor child. BUT, and this the vital corollary, such ending of a pregnancy must be done earliest possible date in the lifetime already begun. [Donning my flame suit now ...]

She's mildly pro-choice, I'm mildly against her nomination now.

It is total ridiculous to be a one choice, one view voter.

I certainly would not vote for someone who was more for abortion, and not the one who is not as committed. I understand where she is coming from and I am not of her opinion, but.....I would vote for her.

The official teaching of the Catholic Church is to vote and to vote on the lesser of the two evils. I am not putting Dr. Rice in the lesser of the two evil category, just trying to explain a teaching.

She would be a marvelous person to consider for President, and someone of her background and stature could possibly bring about more laws to protect the unborn than has ever been able to have been done before.

I have stated in this forum previously, I am very pro-life, but I do not think we are going to get there in one big whack, it will take many steps, and mini victories in order to get there. Rome was not built in a day, these laws are going to have to be dealt with patiently, much to my sorrow.

But to turn on Dr. Rice, giving the real evil person the ability to win is beyond my comprehension.

As I peruse this thread, I find something interesting.

When many of us where beating up on John Kerry for being pro-abortion, no objection was made. But, if a pro-abortion Republican is criticized, suddenly we're "single-issue" voters, and "stupid" numbskulls.

Funny how that works.

That's it. She's out, as far as I'm concerned.

Too bad. I was willing to give her a chance to amend her stance. She blew it.

If she states she is a libertarian on the issue of abortion, that means she is a social liberal on this issue.

I will never vote for a pro-abortion candidate. Abortion is murder, and I will not give anything - one vote, one dollar - to a person who would protect its legality. I can overlook a lot in candidates, but protecting the slaughter of the unborn is not one of them.

I am to the bone a Republican but I'm also pro-choice...i'm sure I don't fit in here with that comment butI've been pro-choice all my life. would I ever have an abortion? Doubtful! do I respect the rights of others (other then late-term abortion - in my opinion murder), absolutely. I'm sure I'm going to get castigated here but hey, that's the way I feel...would I vote for Condi? In a NY second!

Maybe a poll could be run here on the F.R. to find out how many would vote for a "mildly" or other level of pro-choice Republican if the alternative happened to be Hillary, plus Hollywood back in the White House and all the rest that automatically goes along with the Clintons!
Oc course it would not reflect national Republicans and conservatives, Libertarians, etc, in general, but it might be interesting.

I'm an anti abortion libertarian. All REAL libertarians are anti abortion.

There is one group on this forum I cannot abide, ill informed, ignorant pretend conservatives, like you.
