Fulton Co. Judge shot and killed in courthouse shooting (BREAKING Fri 9A)
WAGA-TV/WSB-TV Atlanta | 3.11.05

Posted on 03/11/2005 6:39:06 AM PST by mhking

This is a breaking news situation.

A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased.

The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large.

I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.

in a tragic 14 year old way

I think all 14 year old girls are tragically in love. The funny thing is I can't remember the name of the boy I would have willing died for when I was 14. I guess I got over it too.

That violates not only any police procedure I have ever heard of, but also basic common sense.

That's what I have been saying--very strange.

We had a murder (double murder of witnesses against him in a child abuse case) trial in my upstate NY County last week and the defendant was in orange jump suit and shackles. There were 3 to 4 deputies assigned to him in the courtroom and when he was moved 2 to 3 more came in from outside. There seemed to be no question of security being insecure.

If you saw the female Asst. D.A. Abramson at this afternoon's press conference, did you hear her say that Nichols was agitated yesterday in court, that he was walking around the courtroom talking to people and being belligerent? I swear I heard her say that, and if it's true, then somebody wasn't doing their job. Nobody knows if this guy brought those two shanks into the courtroom from the jail with him yesterday, and if he was walking around freely, talking to people in the courtroom, it's possible they were passed to him then. I certainly hope they do a thorough exam of what transpired that led up to the incident.

Now, those are fighting words. You do realize that Oklahoma has owned Texas in the Red River Shootout for the past 4 years. Going to make it 5 this year. 63/14.

There was a series of major f-ups in this sad tale, from days before the incident, to during the act, to afterwards, when the guy eluded police downtown for over an hour, committed multiple carjackings and whisked himself off to God knows where. But none of it's a real surprise given the "leadership" of Fulton Co. and City of Atlanta.

Somehow, I'm thinkin if this guy is caught (alive), when he shows up in court again, he'll be restrained in some manner

They'll have the "shock belt" on him, turned up to "sizzle".

This guys face really looks mean, the eyes look just brutal. You can't get a fair trial with that face, he just looks so guilty.

In a related story, the timing is downright eerie......

MINNEAPOLIS - The shooting incident at a courthouse in Atlanta is serving as a grim reminder of shootings that took place at the Hennepin County Government Center in Minneapolis 18 months ago.

Mandatory weapons screening goes into effect at the Hennepin County Government Center on Monday. Talks about increased security have been in the works since a fatal shooting there in September, 2003.

Susan Berkovitz, the woman convicted in the Minneapolis shootings, opened fire outside of a courtroom on the 17th floor of the building on September 29 of that year, killing her cousin and injuring the victim's attorney. She was sentenced to life in prison.

Starting at 6 a.m. Monday, employees and court visitors heading to certain floors will go through a screening system similar to what is in place at airports across the country.

"There will be people that are upset," said county security manager Roberta Haight. "It is an inconvenience. But you need to balance the inconvenience with the security. And that's what it's all about come Monday."

The busy times will obviously be in the mornings when employees are arriving to work and when others are arriving to .

During the noon lunch hour, about 3,000 of the 7,000 people expected to go through security on an average weekday are expected to be government employees.

ALthough they didn't come out and say it, both my father and I believe he acquired the shanks in the court room....Check and see who was in attendance and then check out his/her garage or apartment.

BTW Hope they are giving some protection to the X girlfriend and her new boy friend....I'd say that both of them and the young DA are in danger....Oh and don't forget the "friends" who turned him in last time.
