Fulton Co. Judge shot and killed in courthouse shooting (BREAKING Fri 9A)
WAGA-TV/WSB-TV Atlanta | 3.11.05

Posted on 03/11/2005 6:39:06 AM PST by mhking

This is a breaking news situation.

A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased.

The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large.

I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.

My first cousin once removed, is my cousin's son. Who is my son's second cousin.

My father's first cousin once removed is Woodrow Wilson Crumbo, an American Indian painter.....Though none of our family is NA, except my son who can trace his (blue eye/blond) roots back to Pocahontas.....

Think he could get a professorship?

Your son's second cousin is your first cousin once removed. If the first cousin once removed is the son of your first cousin. So the children are second cousins. Their children are third cousins but the grandson of your first cousin is your first cousin twice removed and his son is your first cousin thrice removed. Dont marry him, I don't think it is a good idea unless you are mary Kaye LeTourneau.

When I got divorce, my inlaws (whom I dearly love) referred to me as their outlaw!

Marriage? In one of the local hollers one of the guys traded his wife for his cousins huntin' dog. Had to throw in his stereo system. (8 track) to boot! (and that a true story....even went to court.....Seems there was a little problem with one of the items. It didn't work. Can't remember which one. But they got in one heck of a fight. Shots were fired! The law was called! AND......

I used to manage a large courthouse and I can't imagine how this could have happened? I guess the Fulton County Courthouse doesn't have the architectural safeguards we had, and apparently they didn't have the procedural ones either.

I know we hear about the "bad" judges, but I have a lot of respect for them and you seldom hear about the ones that are as down to earth and level headed as anyone you'll ever meet. I cringe when all judges are lumped together as being arrogant or left wing.

I'll tell you one thing, you certainly look at security differently after managing a courthouse. I'm glad I'm not managing one now, given this and the hit on the federal judge's family. Everyone will be on pins and needles for months.

Did you know that the judge in this case -Roland Barnes- just last month gave 3 years probation to Dany Heatle -the Canadian Hockey player who had joined the Atlanta Thrashers- for killing his friend and teammate Dan Snyder in a car accident? Yep, no jail time, just probation plus 150 speeches (50 per year) about the dangers of driving too fast. He can keep on playing in the NHL but no more Ferraris and booze... just drive an ordinary car, which doesn't exceed 70 mph.

No, I don't think the guy who killed him was mad about that, but since you're a hockey fan, I thought I should bring it up.

Anyone who is not sure how to feel about a brazen multiple murder in a courtroom doesn't deserve any further respect in political discourse, IMNSHO.

I have seen a lot of discussion today by people who I do respect who say the deputy (woman or not) transporting him should never have been armed when the perp was uncuffed, and never should have been alone. That's counter-intuitive... But proper procedure to transport would have been to have an unarmed deputy physically handling the perp, and an armed one in attendance at all times. It makes sense in that a deputy's firearm is more of a liability than a benefit in a hand to hand situation. The deputy with the benefit of distance can better use the weapon.

Something went procedurally wrong, obviously.

What a despicable thing to say. Do you think any of his rulings warranted the death penalty.

Use common sense. Females should not be guarding guys like this. Especially females with guns who can be overcome and their guns be taken. I think that too many people believe what they see on TV and in the moivies that women would stand a chance fighting the average guy, not to mention criminals.

The training needs to be better, but do not use females. Why cannot people realize this or admit this? It is not a question of fairness or rights for God's sake. Use your heads!

You can marry your first cousin in NC, just not a double-first cousin.

(For the uninitiated, you only have a double-first cousin if your dad's brother (or sister) married your mom's sister (or brother). Their kids would be your double-first cousins, genetically as close to you as your own siblings.)

Do you have an issue with that sentence? Sounds entirely appropriate to me.

According to an interview on Fox news earlier today. The perp had been found to have two shanks (one in each shoe) just recently and additional protection was requested and given........My question is why/what didn't happen?
