Fulton Co. Judge shot and killed in courthouse shooting (BREAKING Fri 9A)
WAGA-TV/WSB-TV Atlanta | 3.11.05

Posted on 03/11/2005 6:39:06 AM PST by mhking

This is a breaking news situation.

A man entered a courtroom in the Fulton County Courthouse this morning and shot a Fulton County Sheriff's deputy, a clerk and a judge; there are reports from both WSB and WAGA, the judge is deceased.

The perp has carjacked multiple vehicles -- now on his third -- and is still at large.

I've just come from downtown Atlanta, and the city is a madhouse.

We read two different articles. The one I read said that the reason he was not shackled was because the judge did not want to prejudice the jury. I think the newsies are still trying to get their facts straight. We should know more in the next few days.

Some will disagree with this, but I believe all defendants charged with a crime of violence should be positively restrained while in a courthouse. That means a stun belt at minimum. Of course, if there is only one escorting deputy and he's incompetent, inattentive, etc. then it won't matter what precautions are ordered.

Thanks, glad to be here.

We always worry about this sort of stuff, the courthouse necessarily attracts lowlifes and crazies.

We have had some close calls before, but nothing like this, at least not in a long time.

Other deputy was shot in the chest as the Perp was trying t ofind a car to jack in the parking ramp. They haven't come right out and said "a male deputy", but they keep referring to "him" being DOA at Grady hospitol.

How many times have you heard of someone actually winning a case in traffic court?

Next time, try pleading "not guilty by reason of insanity" to a traffic ticket.

Thanks...so the female deputy (who's not dead) was shot first by her own gun - and then he killed the judge, the court reporter and another deputy (male}

I'm going to be flamed by some feminists, but only idiots and political correctness nuts would put a woman deputy in charge of a big male thug like this.

If they only put LE individuals BIGGER then this guy - either by height or weight or build this most likely would have been avoided completely.

http://www.ajc.com/news/content/custom/blogs/breaking/entries/2005/03/11/wounded_deputy_expected_to_survive.html

Dr. Jeffrey Salomone, one of the attending trauma surgeons at Grady Memorial Hospital, said the mortally wounded deputy was brought into the hospital at 9:24 a.m. with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen.

“He had no vital signs when he arrived here, and despite our resuscitative efforts, he was pronounced dead at about 9:34,” Salomone said. “About that time, a second Fulton County sheriff’s deputy arrived.”

The second deputy, Salomone said, “appeared to have a single gunshot wound to the head.”

Salomone said the bullet did not enter the deputy’s skull.

“She has a small bruise on her brain and some fractures around her face,” the doctor said. “It appears that after being shot, the deputy perhaps fell to the ground, receiving some of those fractures to her head.”

He said that while that deputy is in critical condition, “she is expected to survive the injuries.”

They had video of him while the EMT's were working on him- he was a male deputy.

May have been aiming for the side of her head. Bounced off a cheekbone and out through her jaw kinda thing. Not sure. They've described her as having a "bruised brain" and several fractures in her face and skull.

Ouch...
