Good morning folks. I know no other place to go than to freerepublic to get what I hope is an honest assessment about Hillsdale College.
Last November, my sister first found about Hillsdale College, a conservative liberal arts college located in Michigan. She likes many aspects of the college including the fact that they do not accept federal funding. Her senior high school daughter applied for admission and was accepted for next fall.
Recently, however, she was talking with a colleague and learned about a sex-suicide scandal that involved the president and his daughter-law. Apparently this affair was uncovered in the fall of November 1999.
During the application process, no one mentioned this to her. As a matter of fact, she and her daughter, as well as myself and our mother, were scheduled to visit this past weekend but we have temporarily postponed the trip.
My sister found lots of info about this unfortunate event on the internet including a freerepublic thread from 1999!!
She would still like for her daughter to attend, however, she wants to know what the current situation is like in Hillsdale now. She would appreciate any information that she can get. Can anyone offer any enlightment? Thank you
National Review covered this scandal extensively. Good coverage. Suggest you try your local library for the back issues..otherwise "google"
With an oxymoronic name like Hillsdale it can't be good.
It is a fine education in a conservative atmosphere. I would consider it money well spent.
I wish I could have gone there. The "scandal" did occur, but my understanding is that those folks are gone and the college is as good as ever.
Thank you. Good news. So glad to hear this.
It's because as you come out of the flat land of Ohio and into Southern Michigan you start getting into the rolling hills and dales. I grew up in Hillsdale.
If you seek a top notch college Hillsdale is one of the best you will find. Period.
You're a local. I grew up in Hanover.
We have one in Illinois too.
It is a long way from being the dumbest town name we have.
Thank you. Again, good to hear this.
I met Sam Tanenhaus in early Dec 99 outside the gazebo, which sits in the arboratum, and where Lisa Roche killed herself. Most of the MSM had gone by then because they couldn't find a scandal. The local police botched the investigation but it's pretty much over now.
For Tanenhaus' piece, get a copy of the March 2000 issue of "Vanity Fair." It's fair.
Born in Albion.....lived in Homer for a few years.....still have family there. Springport, parma, albion, marshall,
family property by Pulaski, SE of HOmer.....great deer hunting!
Isn't there a Hanover-Horton HS?
I lived in Allen for a while and still go to Butler for the races on occasion.
That's ware eye wint too skool.
Thank you.
That's right. Hillsdale is one of the best places to get a good education in the country. They have a newsletter Imprimis which is one of the best conservative sources in the world.
