Last month I learned of a book, "The First Hundred Years of Hillsdale College." (1844-1943) I requested it on an inter-library loan and I received a copy from Albion-Mudd Library system. I leafed through it for a few days and recognized a number of old local names. There was a big fight (almost a war) when the decision was made (I believe before the Civil War) to move the college from Spring Arbor to Hilldale.

I wonder if the Mudd name is related to the Dr. Mudd who worked on Booth? I know the family settled in Michigan.
