The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

WASHINGTON - Prompted by new intelligence indicating Osama bin Laden reached out to the most feared terrorist in Iraq, President Bush charged Thursday that "al-Qaida still hopes to attack us on our own soil."

"Recently, we learned that Osama bin Laden has urged the terrorist Zarqawi to form a group to conduct attacks outside Iraq, including here in the United States," Bush said at the swearing-in of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff.

The president vowed, "We're working every day and night to dismantle (bin Laden's) network and to bring him to justice."

Well, I saw it in context of my area. The only such tank farm with which I'm acquainted is the one at Port Everglades and is fairly isolated. In your context it certainly won't be a picnic, but nothing on the order of a real nuclear device. But bad, yes.

Al-Qaida Web message offers missile tutorial

An Internet posting obtained by NBC News — written mostly in Arabic — details how to fire a shoulder-fired missile and how to overcome security measures.

NBC terrorism analyst Evan Kohlmann says it was posted five days ago on an Internet location used by Iraq's top terrorist, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.

"We've seen plenty of material on radical Islamic Web sites dealing with shooting down military aircraft in combat zones," says Kohlmann. "However, this is the first time I've ever seen the deliberate targeting of civilian aircraft leaving U.S. airports."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Zahra Kazemi did not die in "an accident" at Tehran's notorious Evin prison, whatever Iran's discredited courts may claim. She was savagely beaten, tortured and raped, according to a physician who treated her as she lay dying from a brain injury.

Kazemi, an Iranian-born Canadian photojournalist, was arrested June 23, 2003, outside Evin prison while taking pictures at a pro-democracy rally. Three days later she was carried unconscious on a stretcher into Baghiatollah military hospital, reports Maj. Shahram Azam, a physician in the Iranian security forces who treated her. She never recovered.

What Dr. Azam saw at the hospital that night shocked him and will outrage Canadians, including the 250,000 of Iranian origin in this country.

Kazemi's skull was badly bruised and her nose was crushed. Her eardrum was ruptured. Fingers were broken. Fingernails and toenails were ripped out. Her ribs were bruised, possibly broken. She had been flogged. A nurse reported Kazemi had been violently raped. "I could see this was torture," Azam said yesterday in Ottawa, after arriving this week with his family seeking asylum. And he said the torture went on for some time.

Azam's horrific account of Kazemi's last hours makes a mockery of the Iranian court's claim that her death resulted from "a drop in blood pressure resulting from a hunger strike" and a fall to the ground."

Hey ExSoldier...I have been checking-in from time to time but just can't keep up with the thread daily as I used to. (Homeschooling/child-rearing really cuts into my free time ;) ) I live in Northern Virginia & on I-95, just south of the "Mixing Bowl" there are several huge white silo thingys. Is this a tank farm? I see tanker trucks pulling in and out when I happen to go by that way but haven't really noticed any signage to identify it. If it is or if it is some other toxic stuff in those enormous cylinders, it'd really mess-up the evening rush hour if something ever happened to it. Anyone else know what it is?

Sounds like a good candidate for a tank farm. Question: Are the cylinders tall and slender like a SILO (farm silo?) or are they squat and big like a stack of poker chips...maybe with a long staircase running up one side? Believe it or not, tall and tanker trucks all the time might be MILK or some farm product! My kin has a huge dairy farm in Bealton (well, just converted to beef) and when I spent time there as a kid, they used to tell me about those.
