Illinois--Harmful Bill Passes Committee
Dear HSLDA members and friends:
We are sad to report that Senate Bill 409 passed the Senate Education Committee by a vote of 7 to 4. The four Republicans voted against it.
The sponsor received over 500 calls, and the other committee members reported receiving hundreds of calls. Nonetheless, S.B. 409, which will expand the state's control over your children for two more years, will now be considered by the full Senate.
At the hearing on March 15 Senator Raoul, who sponsored the bill, declared that he wants the compulsory school attendance age to be even lower. He wants to require 4 year-olds to be in school.
Last year, Illinois was the only state in the last several years to raise the compulsory attendance age. We cannot allow the school age to be lowered to 5. We must keep calling until the bill is defeated.
Illinois homeschoolers need to practice "the widow at the judge's door" principle and keep knocking until the legislature changes course.
The next step is to call your own Senator. You should be aware that the legislature's 2 week break starts Monday. However, please continue to call.
ACTION REQUESTED
Please call your Senator and give him this message:
"Please vote against S.B. 409, which lowers the compulsory attendance age. This bill is unnecessary. It restricts parental choice and wastes taxpayer money."
Do not identify yourself as a homeschooler.
You can find information on your Senator by using our Legislative Toolbox at http://www.hslda.org/toolbox/ or by calling the Capitol at 217-782-2235.

Level 3 The situation is not under control and protective action may be necessary for the surrounding area. Additional Industrial Mutual Aid System assistance may be needed. An incident involving a greater hazard or a larger area, which poses a potential threat to life or property and which may require a limited evacuation of the surrounding area. Requires police to quarantine the area.
No, that was yesterday, but I wanted to document it here.
This ConservativePetitions.com Alert is a special message from RightMarch.com
ALERT: We spent ALL DAY again Tuesday lobbying TEN
"swing" Florida legislators, trying to get those state
Senators to change their minds and vote FOR the new
legislation that could save Terri Schiavo from starvation
once and for all. Click here to see pictures of some of
the things we've been doing in Tallahassee:
http://www.rightmarch.com/fl1.htm
We believe we've made GREAT progress today here in the
state capital. We've narrowed our list of "target"
Senators who are "swing" legislators, meaning there is
a fair chance they could change their minds and vote FOR
the legislation to save Terri's life.
Thanks to YOUR phone calls -- literally THOUSANDS of
calls, that we got to hear ALL DAY as they were ringing
OFF THE HOOK in those offices -- we believe we have at
least one, and probably two, Senators who have switched
over to our side.
Now, we just need ONE MORE state Senator to change his
or her mind and vote with us to save Terri Schiavo's life.
This is NOT a "done deal" here -- Wednesday is the LAST
DAY of the Florida legislature's session, so THIS IS IT.
So once more, we need YOUR help.
We need EVERYONE READING THIS EMAIL to call the following
Florida state Senators RIGHT AWAY, and ask them to do one
simple thing:
"I BEG YOU TO SAVE TERRI SCHIAVO'S LIFE --
PLEASE VOTE TO SAVE TERRI TODAY."
That's all we're asking you to do. Just call seven state
Senators -- or as many as you can -- and beg them to vote
to save Terri's life.
TAKE ACTION: Call these seven Senators NOW:
Anthony Hill, Sr.
850-487-5024
Gary Siplin
850-487-5190
Alex Villalobos
850-487-5130
Larcenia J. Bullard
850-487-5127
Walter Campbell, Jr.
850-487-5094
Nancy Argenziano
850-487-5017
Burt L. Saunders
850-487-5124
In addition, PLEASE call Governor Jeb Bush's office NOW at
850-488-4441, asking him to exercise the executive powers
he ALREADY HAS, and take custody of Terri Schiavo to save
her from being starved to death. We've got renowned lawyer
Larry Klayman coming in on Wednesday to meet one-on-one
with Gov. Bush's General Counsel lawyers, showing them
point-by-point exactly why the Governor DOES have those
powers right NOW. Call Gov. Bush and ask him to USE those
powers to save Terri's life.
