vh-1/viacom ^ | 3-02-05

What is the most awesomely bad love song ever? The one that makes you cringe when you hear it, but you just can't turn it off. What love song makes you shake your head, roll your eyes, laugh, gag, shed a tear, or just punch something because it's so horrendously great that you love to hate it. Or is it vice versa? VH1 is counting down the 40 Most Awesomely Bad Love Songs....The kind of songs that might end a relationship rather than enhance it. You get the drift.

Join us as we count down and celebrate fantastically cheesy lyrics, the best and worst metaphors, awkward and confusing themes, and of course, those strange, misguided flukes from our favorite artists, while our team of experts help explain why we've deemed these songs so (un)worthy. We've been covering our ears, shutting off the radio, and running from the room screaming for too long. It's time to ban these songs to our awesomely bad Hall of F(Sh)ame!

"Oh, I loved that song, "Julie"......and for that matter "I Think I Love You". Guess you had to be a teenage girl with stars in her eyes to appreciate those songs!"

Oh me too, I loved both of those. We must be just about the same age. Those WERE the good times!

Sully, I hope you realize what you've started here. We'll be looking for a tally of votes, and other than Muskrat Love taking the number one spot, well, you've got some work to do!

I see from your FReeper page you are in NJ? That's where I was in the 70s, listening to WABC on the car radio - over and over again. Someone there must have loved that song a lot. I was so relieved when my father picked us up one weekend in a new car that came with FM. I think it also had a cassette player, too?

Gosh, so many years ago. I hear that song today, and I can almost relive it like it was 1974 all over again. I can smell the smoke in Daddy's car. I can see his sideburns. I can hear how the buttons sounded when he pushed them to change the station. Wasn't there also a WNBC on AM?

Getting tired...

Until tomorrow...

"You made me just think of my favorite "love" song, "I Hold Your Hand In Mine" by the immortal Tom Lehrer"

"I hold your hand in mine, dear
I bring it to my lips
I take a gentle bite from
Your dainty fingertips
My joy would be complete, dear
If you were only here
But still I keep your hand as
A precious souvineer"

That one?

I just read in the paper today that their drummer had died.

Oh dang, I liked The Searchers! Needles and Pins is one of my favorite songs from my Junior High years!

"Claire," by Gilbert O'Sullivan,

That song always gave me the creeps. And his "Alone Again, Naturally" is one of the most depressing songs I've ever heard!

Angel Eyes (I'll Never Let You Go) by Steelheart

My sister loved this song and played it non stop when we were younger much to my chagrin. I can hear the high pitched screeching now....

I can't remember the name of the new wave era 70's/80's band, but the refrain to the song was:

"Your love is like a nuclear waste
They oughta stamp contaminated right across your face"

"Their 1979 release Strangers in the Night is one of the top 10 live albums in the genre's history, imo."

Just now caught your answer to my question about UFO.

Another live Top Ten live album of yours was 'Wings' as I recall.

Recommend a couple of tunes of UFO you consider their exemplary best, and I'll try downloading them to critique.

I once almost dumped a guy because I found out he liked that song.

I can't believe a guy could like that song. I can't believe a female past the age of 14 could like that song.

OK Squant. First I'm going to be sleeping with Mac Davis, courtesy of YOU, and NOW you tell me that you really LIKE that song?

WHY are you trying to hurt me? WHY?
