The first name that popped out of U.S. Sen. John McCain's mouth Sunday as the Republican choice for president in 2008 was Jeb Bush, but the governor's spokesman repeated his position that he has no plans to run.
"If you're looking at dynasties, and by the way I'm a great admirer of Governor Bush, he's done a great job in Florida," the Arizona senator said on "Fox News Sunday." But he added, "This might be a wide-open situation."
In response to McCain's remarks, Bush spokesman Jacob DiPietre said: "The governor is focused on his job right now. He's got an ambitious agenda for his remaining time in office and has said repeatedly that he has no intentions of running" for president in 2008.
Interesting theory.

That's fine, but it's a HUGE improvement from prior to when Jeb took office, especially in university admissions.
As far as the driver's licenses, I agree with you. I think it's a dumb move. However, I think you're ignoring everything else he's done (especially his fiscal policies), and labeling him a RINO based on essentially one position would pretty much mean that everyone is a RINO in your book. Are there any other positions that would classify him as a RINO, or is that it?

Never say never. Remember Nixon? Defeated in 1960 for the Presidency. Defeated in 1962 for governor of California. Everyone thought he was washed up. Done. Finished. Elected President in 1968 and by a landslide in 1972.
As I said, I honestly think it's a matter of Quayle hitting the ground running with an agenda from the get-go. What happened in 1992 was a long time ago. Much longer than Nixon's 8 year hiatus. In 1992 we didn't have bloggers, FR, or FNC. It can be done.
I don't think the US Senate is a step up from Governor. It might be a step up coming from a small state but not FL. Just my opinion YMMV
Just because I don't want to see another Bush in the White House does not mean that I dislike them. It's o.k. in my book to disagree with someone's views without disliking them.
This is probably different for you, however.
I'm not old enough to know but I have to think the MSM beat the heck out of Reagan as CA Gov and he came back. The MSM beat up Nixon as Ike's VP. Any older Freepers able to give some perspective and compare the attacks on Nixon as VP and Reagan as Gov to Quayle?

Dan Quayle is a true-blue committed conservative. He more than has what it takes to carry on the torch of America. And he would be a worthy successor to W. Vision, integrity, experience, faith, values: Dan is our man!
I do have a hard time liking people who I believe express dishonesty. I'm a father and I often see fraudulant people as bad for America and my children's future. Jesus said love your enemy but I am not Jesus.
If you were mearly saying something like..."I don't think Jeb is the best choice," or even "I disagree," as you clame in this post I would not have responded. But you posted Stop Jeb Now!!!!! NO MORE BUSH!!!!!! This is a dire warning with many exclaimation points. I don't think you'ra stupid...you understand the words you chose and the way you expressed it is inflamitory and looks a lot like the crap one reads at DU. It is the way one would write "THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
All I said was that I was convinced you don't like the Bush's. I don't even need to check other threads to be convinced...it is clear from your posts at #107 and #109 and #114. Why can't you admit it?
It was 1992. Bush and Quayle were running as incumbents and were unlucky enough to have a medium-sized "soft patch" recession during election year. And the "duh" move of reneging on "no new taxes" didn't help either. With that, a moderately conservative 3rd party, a ruthless Clinton campaign, and the somewhat incoherency of the Bush message (we don't even need to mention Old Media's "help"), Clinton squeaked into the Office with an unrespectable 43%. Quayle was portrayed as negatively as being unintelligent.
As for 2000, his campaign never took off. I couldn't say what happened.
But passed time has a way to heal old wounds and 13 years is plenty to put the past where it belongs. We don't need to argue about whether he's intelligent. What's clear is that the MSM stuck that to him. But today they no longer have the carte blanche they had in 1992. We have bloggers, FR, FNC and the likes. I think he has a good chance at getting a fair shake if he hits the ground running with his agenda. The Weekly Stand with Kristol will help, too.
I don't even need to mention that he's emminently qualified for the Office. At least, that's how I feel. America can never have enough pro-family, pro-values, pro-defense committed conservatives like Dan. The man has depth and vision.
Maybe my post was unclear. I know plenty about how Quayle was mistreated by the MSM. I was looking for someone who could give some perspective on Nixon's treatment at the hands of the press during the 50's as well as Reagan's during the 60's.
Look I am not old enough either. I was just trying to share my enthusiasm and my ideas. For some that is enough.
We agree. There is no need to defend your opinion. I was just trying to be clear. I'm searching for validation that the media tried and failed to kill the future of 2 other great men Nixon and Reagan.

Just saw that. I am thinking that I would rather it not be another Bush. I love the two we already elected as president, but I don't think I would be comfortable with a third Bush as pres. I don't know why. Just doesn't sound right. How about Bill Frist or Michael Steele????? or Condi????
