BUSH PRAISES FLAT TAX
The Drudge Report ^

President Bush, who has pledged to reform the U.S. tax code in his second term, today praised the flat tax implemented by Prime Minister Mikulas Dzurinda of the Slovak Republic. During their meeting in Bratislava, Bush, without prompting, made a point of touting the flat tax:
I complimented the Prime Minister on putting policies in place that have helped this economy grow. The most important responsibility we have at home is to make sure our people can find work. And the president put a flat tax in place; he simplified his tax code, which has helped to attract capital and create economic vitality and growth. I really congratulate you and your government for making wise decisions.

Now show some conservative balls and request the flat tax from congress, President Bush.

I'd prefer an NRST (NOT A VAT), but even a flat tax at this point would be preferrable to what we have now.

Then why don't we have one. A 10% flat tax, if 10% is good enough for God then it should be enough for the Federal government.

I actually agree with you. I would prefer an NRST, ideally, but that ain't gonna' happen any time soon. I'll take a flat-tax in the meantime :-)

With all due respect, President Bush has shown more balls than each of his 2 predecessors combined. I would argue that is not the case when it comes to fiscal policy. What was the purpose of that silly income tax rebate thingy?
To: Piquaboy
They would have to seek employment elsewhere.

I'm with you on the sales tax. A flat tax to me means nothing - calculating the tax on taxable income is a no-brainer, flat or not.
The pain is in figuring out what income is to be taxed. I'm going through a nightmare right now because of a business that my brother sold and I invested in. The investment lasted over 12 years and to calculate the capital loss on it is killing me.
The K-1's and interest claimed each year added more to my "income" than I was actual paid - hence the long term capital loss - after I go back and find out how this investment affected my income each and every year.
What a pain! Nothing productive is being accomplished, just wasted hours in an attempt to keep more of my own money and make sure I can pass an audit if it happens.
Scrap the income tax flat tax and all. Go to a sales tax.

if 10% is good enough for God then it should be enough for the Federal government. There's a BIG company here in JAX, W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor, Inc., that puts a bumper sticker on EVERY one of it's company trucks that says "If 10% is good enough for God then it's good enough for the IRS"

They'd have plenty to do clearing up legal problems from their tax refund loan scam.

Which rebate? Are you are talking about the the two rebates for child credits early in Bush's administration?
If so, I thought they were to buy patio furniture and a big wooden swing set for the kids.

The NRST won't fly because there is too much room for corruption in the collection proces. Also adds more paperwork and we know what that has done in the present IRS system.
