HIV harbinger
Waterbury Republican-American ^ | February 15, 2005 | Editorial

Last week's announcement by federal and New York City health authorities of the discovery of a superstrain of HIV that is unimaginably aggressive and impossible to treat has help smash clichés about homosexuals and fidelity while undermining the foundation of arguments for mandatory HIV testing for all Americans.

A 40-something homosexual is believed to have contracted the superstrain in October, but was not diagnosed until December. In between, he had unprotected sex with hundreds of men, which means a geometric progression of the supervirus through the homosexual community may be under way. What has health officials horrified is the man developed AIDS in fewer than three months, instead of seven to 10 years it usually takes when HIV goes untreated, and the supervirus is resistant to the drugs given to treat AIDS. Moreover, they have scoured the city looking for his partners, but to date have contacted only about a dozen and not all have been willing to help them.

This story is the homosexual lobby's worst nightmare. When it agitates for marriage, adoption and other extraordinary rights, it finds homosexuals who have been in committed relationships for long periods to speak to legislators, judges or journalists. But as extensive sociological research has shown, the New York City case is more typical of the promiscuous lifestyle of homosexuals.

The disclosure of the HIV superstrain came days after the publication of two government-funded studies that recommended routine annual testing for AIDS for the entire U.S. population as a way of reducing HIV rates. But that counsel ignores the paramount issue of risk.

As much as homosexual agitators contend HIV threatens everyone, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 82 percent of America's 920,000 AIDS cases in 2003 began with homosexual sex, the sharing of drug needles or both. Heterosexual contact accounted for less than 15 percent, but the rate among monogamous couples and abstinent singles was 0 percent. These numbers illustrate best why the life expectancy of homosexuals is at least 30 years shorter than that of the average heterosexual.

At a time when the cost of health insurance is soaring and millions have lost or are at risk of losing their health coverage, why should taxpayers through Medicaid and insurers through higher premiums have to pay so that more than 200 million people may undergo unnecessary testing when the people most responsible for transmitting HIV won't submit to tests or take precautions to prevent the spread of the disease?

Since the initial AIDS outbreak more than 20 years ago, health officials have recommended routine HIV testing for people in high-risk groups.

That's sound advice; just because those mostly likely to come down with AIDS refuse to accept it or change their lifestyles to reduce their risk is no excuse for burdening everyone else with the cost and inconvenience of testing that will tell them what they already know.

I deeply resent having to pay for the study that came to this insane conclusion.

Doesn't that say it all? Of the 15 % of hetro couples who got it, no doubt at least one of the two people involved was experimenting in some same sex hanky panky at one time or got it through a tainted blood transfusion or sharing needles.

Absolute insanity and we are paying for it.

I think the 'Old Man' upstairs has had enough of this Saddam and Gomorrah crap. If this doesn't squelch the deviants in society then the new virus will just blow their d**ks off.

Here's another kind of "harbinger.". Is this what they're talking about? I sure hope not:

Nonsense. The author refutes his/her own statement later in the article.

Didn't their mothers tell them that coci (is that how it's spelled?) is dirty?

What did they expect?

> This story is the homosexual lobby's worst nightmare.

In which case they're missing the point if they think
this is just a PR problem. AIDS is a fatal illness when
untreated or untreatable. Now it's a fast fatal illness.

Unless behaviour changes, this could become a self-solving
problem, as it elminates the hedonistic subculture
heedlessly spreading this virus (along with some
collateral damage amoungst unsuspecting partners and
spouses).

"contracted the superstrain in October, but was not diagnosed until December. In between, he had unprotected sex with hundreds of men"

Let's do the math:

3 months x 30 days = 90 days

"Hundreds" >= 200

200 instances of unprotected sex / 90 days = 2.2 times per day minimum.

That's a whale of a lot of nookie. If this fellow is anywhere near representative, we've got ourselves

AIDS II, the Sequel.

I disagree with the author's conclusions. In theory, eveyone is at risk since one doesn't truly know whether or not their partner is monogamous. This is simply a risky assumption, particularly for women.

Actually, a fast fatal illness that is as difficult to spread as Aids (the flu it ain't) should burn itself out pretty quickly. The real problem with Aids as an epidemic is that people can be unwittingly infectious for many years.

The damage is potentially far greater with the queer agenda taking over the government schools' curricula.

The Angel of Death is among us spreading death to those who fail to live in harmony with nature. The taboo is in place for good reason it seems.

"The disclosure of the HIV superstrain came days after the publication of two government-funded studies that recommended routine annual testing for AIDS for the entire U.S. population as a way of reducing HIV rates"

And what then? Sure, many people who come up positive will end their destructive habits. But what about the people who don't? What about those who just don't care, or actively seek to spread it? What will we do then, quarantine?

No answers here. Just uncomfortable questions.

Bump worth repeating.

Recreational sex has its risks, the more abnormal, the more the risk.

"Last week's announcement by federal and New York City health authorities of the discovery of a superstrain of HIV...has help smash cliches about homosexuals and fidelity."

-then says-

"A 40-something homosexual is believed to have contracted the superstrain in October, but was not diagnosed until December. In between, he had unprotected sex with hundreds of men."
and

"As much as homosexual agitators contend HIV threatens everyone, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 82 percent of America's 920,000 AIDS cases in 2003 began with homosexual sex, the sharing of drug needles or both."

So far as I know, some of the "cliches about homosexuals" are that they have unprotected homosexual sex with lots of partners, and that they spread AIDS as a result.

It looks like the article is contradictory - unless it seeks to redefine the "cliches".
