Real fear is mixing with snarky disdain in the "mainstream" media's attitude toward web loggers in the wake of the resignation last Friday of Eason Jordan as CNN's top news executive.
"Bloggers as News Media Trophy Hunters," said the headline in the New York Times Monday, the first time many of the newspaper's readers were made aware of a controversy which had been roiling for nearly two weeks.
"The New York Times media beat reporters got beaten badly on the Eason Jordan story by (gasp!) web logs and cable news and so how do they react? By catching their readers up on what they missed? Of course not. They react by lashing out at web logs," said Jeff Jarvis, whose views were misrepresented in the Times' story.
Web loggers who criticized Jordan are "sons of Sen. McCarthy," said Bertrand Pecquerie, director of the World Editors Forum. "It is very worrying to see this marriage between self-proclaimed citizens' media and mainstream journalists' scalp hunters," he said.
"The salivating morons who make up the lynch mob prevail," said Steve Lovelady, who edits the web site of the Columbia Journalism Review. For those of you unfamiliar with the controversy that is to say, for those of you who get your news from the "mainstream" media in a panel discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland Jan. 27, Jordan said the U.S. military was deliberately killing journalists in Iraq. Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass), a fellow panelist, demanded proof, which Jordan couldn't supply.
Miami businessman Rony Abovitz, who was in attendance, reported on what Jordan said in his web log. This was read by big foot bloggers Hugh Hewitt, Ed Morrissey (Captains Quarters), Glenn Reynolds (Instapundit) and the gang at Power Line, who expressed outrage.

They hurl insults because they are afraid.
If they weren't, they would speak intelligently on the subject instead of acting like toddlers who missed their naps.
And they should be afraid. They are driving themselves out of business with their unprofessionalism.
Good riddance.
Shucks ... were that true there would be a lot fewer "enemies of the state" around.
Hmmmmm ... food for thought though. Thanks. ;)
Got beaten. Snort. They were never in the race. The MSM distinguishes itself, so to speak, not only by the way it slants what it puts out, but also by what it refuses to cover. And in the age of the Internet, they can no longer get away with that stratagem, either.
The Old Media is dead. Long live the New Media.
More dims that just don't get it
Pretty good insight.
What's that sound I hear? The empty vacuum of irrelevance? This is getting fun to watch!
By the way, kudos to Barney Frank for... ummm... not swallowing everything that ... ummm... some guy puts in front of him.
Freedom of the press is not dead in America, but it has taken a mortal injury when the ouster of Talon news from the White House press corpse. The message from the Stone Age Press is that unless you are a Propaganda Arm of the DimRat Party you are not a reporter. Outside of Fox News, the herd mentality of DNCBS is completely opposite of the average American. This is why Gannons question was so pointed and relevant for today. How in the world can the President get his message to the world if the people who deliver that message disagree with it with obvious hatred??
The Stone Age Press stretching from the Old York Times to ABDNC, lost the last election every bit as much as Yaaawn Kerry. They were openly campaigning for him with every trick from phony polls to planted stories to forged documents. Wonder where all those investigative reporters are on themselves?? The average reporter from the 5th estate is not only a Democrat voter but a liberal activist. These people hate GW and America as much as their number one standard bearer Michael Mooreon. How can people so out of touch with Americas values and the goodness she represents, tell the world what America stands for??
Mr Gannon actually asked one of the most important questions in the American Media. As it wallows in the quagmire of the Tarpits of histoir, how can we get the truth to the American people? The success of Fox Rox, Talk Radio and Modern Media, how can the press be so blind? In reality they are a herd mentality and they believe in the safety of the herd. Polls have shown that nearly 90% of the news spewers are extreme Commucrats, and report for each others approval and believe America still thinks the way they do. What they dont realize is that to keep the herd healthy, there must be a thinning as well as a strengthening of the herd or you end up with Rather old tired sickly Dinosaurs. That is who we have now reporting in a digital world with hammers & chisels.
Fox Rox News appears to be Right leaning since it is not an extreme Left-wing mouthpiece. To report middle of the road is so far removed from ABDNCBS that they are Right by comparison. Heck, Pravda is to the Right of the Samestream Press. For one not to attack the President or Republicans 24/7 they are so far outside of Lamestream Group think that they appear opposite to the rest of the news filters. This is why they are enjoying skyrocketing ratings and hated by the herd. We the consumers are not the uneducated bumpkins they have portrayed us for the past 20 years. Most Americans have access to the same direct news feeds that they have which allows us to compare their service both in quality and accuracy. The News business is the only service in the Country that continually insults over 50% of its customers.
How the Stone Agers do not cast the vote in Iraq as one of the great achievements in the history of the World is proof enough to their false reality. The fact that a Country would invade another Country and overthrew a mad dictator, not to own that Country and its wealth; but to free an enslaved people. Saddamn kept his slaves not with chains but fear and torture. The only reporters that got it right were the ones who were actually at the polling places. From the SAP in their cushy desks at the hotel or NY studios, it suddenly was not that important. Everything is filtered through their DNC activism and hatred for W and America. The continual comparisons to Vietnam is more a stretch than Lola Pelosis mask.
So Gannons question is: How can this President work with a press that is out of touch with reality and America?? This is the question of the 21st century. How can any company work without good information? Information is the bedrock of any business or organization and critical for a Free Country. Just as you would dump any accountant that gives you faulty information about your business, you should be able to fire or replace a herd that is lying about this Country. Rather the herd eliminates the messenger describing the Dinosaurs in the Tarpit.

I walked into the news room, sat down at my typewriter, picked up the phone and lit a Camel.
Just then the guy at the copy desk turns to me and says, "Hey, Bud, ya ever heard of the Internet?"
"The Internet," I says. "What's that?"

Giggles aside, I suspect ol' Barney was salivating while asking for the "goods" on the US military.....
WELL SAID!
Did you see that Jordan says he resigned "before he could be unfairly judged" or some such nonsense? The justification for the lies never ends.....
Gee, if Jordan was so worried about being fairly judged, one wonders why CNN didn't see to it that the videotape was released...
"The salivating morons who make up the lynch mob prevail," said Steve Lovelady, who edits the web site of the Columbia Journalism Review."
Nice to know that America's "media watchdogs" have such a high opinion of those they claim to be protecting.
Iraq is like Vietnam from the point-of-view of the MSM--they're trying like hell to sway public opinion against the war. IOW, it's the MSM that's stuck in the '60s. They're the Al Bundy's of the country--reliving their "glory days" while the real world crumbles around them.
""The salivating morons who make up the lynch mob prevail," said Steve Lovelady, who edits the web site of the Columbia Journalism Review."...
Now this is funny. I am amazed by people like the esteemed (in his mind, at least) Steve Lovelady, Columbia Journalism Review, who take themselves so seriously. In case anyone here is unclear, "journalism", as practiced today, is the realm of the "C" student. It is not a hard science, it is not even sociology, it is a farce. Today's "journalist" is no more of a writer or thinker than most anyone who posts up here on FreeRepublic. I'll match him up against the legendary "IronJack" or "JohnHuang2" any day of the week; there are many others who turn a deft phrase.
Just because Mr. Lovelady edits a publication with the name "Columbia" attached to it does not mean he is more qualified to do so than you or me. The main "qualification" he likely has for his post is a left-wing outlook and democrat voting record. That's it. These people are as phony as the democrats they revere - kerry, the clintons, the kennedys, and that ilk, and are no smarter. Which, come to think of it, is not that big a stretch anyway in the case of kerry, et al.
I am curious as to what Mr. Lovelady would say to me, among other things holder of a PhD in a hard science. Am I a "moron"? I know I am a better thinker and writer than the esteemed one, and certainly because of FreeRepublic and other sites, I know far more about what is really going on in the world than some clown in New York.
Get off it, Mr. Lovelady, you and your kind are history!
This is actually quite funny.
The ultimate goal of most reporters for the last 30 years has been to be a new Woodward or Bernstein. Scalp hunters (with liberal politicians as a protected species) is what they are or would like to be.
It must really smart to see your enemies succeeding at the dream you have failed to achieve.
