The FairTax is the non-partisan national sales tax proposal that would replace all federal income taxes. These include personal, estate, gift, self-employment, alternative minimum, capital gains, FICA, and corporate and death taxes.

Is this on the floor now? Or did they simply intro it and shelve it?
When is debate to take place or has debate started on it?
HR 25 has somewhere around 50 cosponsors..
January 4, 2005
Mr. LINDER (for himself, Mr. DELAY, Mr. BRADY of Texas, Mr. CULBERSON, Mr. DEAL of Georgia, Mr. FLAKE, Mr. GUTKNECHT, Mr. KING of Iowa, Mr. KINGSTON, Mr. WESTMORELAND, and Mr. PRICE of Georgia) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Ways and Means
There's a whole lotta arguing about those economics - I really don't care tho if prices rise. Experts tell us that they won't. Either way, the benefits we get from this overall FAR outweigh the bad parts. JMHO
Just having the federal government's boot off of each and every individual's neck will be such a relief. I have to tell the IRS more about my finances then I would feel comfortable telling my own grown kids.
When Sen Hatch was running for Prez several years ago, he pointed at the audience and said the IRS can make criminals of any of you. any of you. It was a powerful message that was totally lost on the media.
I'd guess tax time it'll come up - but I don't know if we'll get it to the floor for another few years.
I was hoping the rate would be lowered to 25% inclusive or so...
And this is considered "fair"?
Well, Joe, nobody pays tax on goods needed at the subsistence level. We all get the pre-bate. So yes, it is fair.
Prices should drop once we eliminate all the embedded taxes on products and services. Estimated drop about 20%.
I think this is worth repeating.
I think the fairest tax would be a "everyone pays the same amount" tax.
I don't give a whip about it being "regressive" as I cant even find the term in the Constitution. For everyone to be equal under the law they should be taxed equally.
The tax should be low enough for poor people to afford it and the government will have to live within it's means.
Politicians could no longer divide and conquer by proposing to tax the other guy. If they change the rate, they change it for everyone.
This tax would be liberating, for once you paid your charge, you are free to seek your dreams.
This tax should be called the Liberty Tax.
Right- then add the nrst and prices will be back where they are today... but we'll not have any fed tax withheld... nor will we have payroll taxes withheld... nor will our employers be forced to pay 7.65% of our wages to SSA, thereby making funds available for productive use - like a raise for me - or lowering our price - or improving our investors' returns...or some combination of the three...
Imagine April 15th as just another day.
Imagine the churches not gagged by their 501(C)3 Status.
Imagine, imagine, imagine. America would become a tax haven.
Imagine no taxation on the fruits of your labors.
Imagine no taxes on your investment accounts. Take the dead weight of taxes off and unleash the compounding effect.
$10,000 invested for ten years at 10% minus 30% taxes:
$19,671.51
$10,000 invested at 10% for ten years with no taxes:
$25,937.42
Oh I see. You were wrong in what you said, you admit it - you have nothing indicating your position is valid at all, but you use profanity to say you're right anyway.
Some people just can't get out of their own way fast enough. The irony is they actually chose to shoot themselves in the foot. It's one thing to make a mistake, but to intentionally discredit oneself... shaking head...
Is this on the floor now? Or did they simply intro it and shelve it?
When is debate to take place or has debate started on it?
It has been introduced and sent to Ways & Means, hearings and a major push on the issue are to be scheduled for later in this Session according to what has been indicated by DeLay & Hastert.
I suspect alot will revolve around the Social Security flurry going on, some are looking to fold taxreform and the Social Security mess under one umbrella and address the issue from that direction as well.
Yes, I always love that "greedy corporation" statement I hear so much about.
Greedy Corporations cannot exist very long unless they are government protected or regulated. Free market pushes them out.
It is only through manipulating patent and trademark laws (ala Disney and drug companies) do "greedy companies" exist.
The laws are in place to end these monopolies, but they are overlooked and not enforced.
The lefts idea to end "greedy companies" is always more regulations, what we need are less regulations and an adherence to the trademark / patent laws that are currently in place.
Being able to hold a trademark or patent for 50 years is absurd.

It'll be the greatest step to emancipation - or back to that freedom - since 1776
what is stupid is people who do not do the research on a subject - so easy to do with Internet - and jump to kneeJERK assumptions
They'll have a hard time explaining why they've been screaming for "the RICH" to pay their fair share - when this plan assures that they finally do, without all the loopholes they've built in for themselves in the present system
Imagine companies around the world wanting to build businesses in the US because they would not be taxed.
Imagine getting your prebate HHS check each month to cover the taxes on necessities.
Imagine just filling out a postcard once a year to report dependents.
