"An Alabama lawmaker reportedly is offering $5,000 to anyone who can show him proof from the Bible indicating marriage is between a man and a woman.

The amount was increased by more than seven-fold by state Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, after he originally took to the House floor this week to declare, "I've got $700 here, and I will give anyone this $700 if they come up and show me in this Bible where it says that marriage is between a man and a woman."

the latest trend for demoncraps is to not take ANYTHING the bible says as proof of anything anyway... just more attention seeking for gays

The Bible is full of passages talking about how sex between same sex people is sinful, i.e. homosexual sex is sinful.

The Bible also specifically says that a man and a woman form a union.

I don't know the passages, I am sure others do.

I think someone should find those passages and send them to this guy, preferably hundreds of people at the same time, and have them all claim the $5,000.

The first few words in the Bible is one of Creation: we see that like men, women are created in God's image. It takes both male and female to bear God's image. We are bone of man's bone and flesh of man's flesh. (Gen. 2:23). Right after the first woman was formed and introduced to the first man, the man was told that from that time forward, "therefore, a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined (cleave) to his wife, and they shall become one flesh." God blessed both man and woman and charged them both to have dominion over the earth. God intended them to experience oneness and to work—have dominion—side by side.

Rep. Alvin Holmes, D-Montgomery, send that $5000 to Jim Robinson, Free Republic ASAP!

Leviticus 18:22: You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

Leviticus 20:13: If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Romans 1:26-27: For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10: Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers — none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.

Alvin Holmes is a joke and an embarrassment to the state of Alabama. I guess the book of Genesis where God made woman for man and from his side and made male and female so they could procreate is not enough for some. I suppose also when God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for it's sinfulness is not enough.

Grandstanding is such a waste of time.
I notice that he specifically did not address any specific version of the bible. If one is found, he can simply claim he does not accept that one as the "definitive" one.

I notice the "D" after Rep. Holmes name does that signify Devil or Demon as in the he is a liar and the Truth is not in him? To deny the plain Truth of the Word of God is willful foolishness. I pity the people that voted this one in.

"The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife has… the unbelieving husband is made holy through his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy through her husband" (1Cor.7:3-4, 14).

I think this lawmaker is splitting hairs about the definition of the word marriage, not whether the Bible condones homosexuality.

The whole business about the definiton of 'is' still cracks me up after all this time. Even after that whole business, the MSM still pretends not to understand why the American people prefer a president who talks straight and doesn't split hairs over 'slick talkers' who dodge the issues with legalistic mumbo-jumbo. I shouldn't have to spend hours disecting speeches to figure out that a certain candidate would have pulled us out of Iraq the moment he was elected. </end rant>

"The Law of Levirate or Levirate Marriage, is a legal provision in the Bible requiring a dead man's brother to marry his childless widow and father a son who would assume the dead man's name and inherit his portion of the Promised Land (Deut.25:5-10)."

How about these scriptures:

(Genesis 2:22-24.)

22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

(1 Corinthians 11:7-12.)

7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man.

8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man.

9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels.

11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.

12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.

(1 Corinthians 7:2-4.)

2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.

4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

(Leviticus 18:22.)

22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. (Leviticus 20:13.)

13 If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. (Romans 1:26-27.)

26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

These are "controversial" to only those who wish them to be so.

word of advice to dems,, Don't go messing with the Bible and re-interpreting it for the Clinton age.

On second thought, re-interpret and spin away. ;-)
