As a friend of mine refers to Camilla: "Ugly as a sack of spanners."

Great! A third thread.

Actually the second thread posted, and the first was posted whilst I was posting this one.

whilst

Finally, I've found someone who takes longer to post a thread than it takes me to post one. I really do want to see what our friends across the pond have to say. Not a problem.

I think that most of us aren't really bothered either way, as long as Mrs. Parker Bowles does not become Queen.

And another thing, if we can have endless threads about an Oklahoma judge mechanically choking his monkey whilst on the bench, we certainly can have a few threads about two royal geezers tying the knot.

Ok, a really dumb question: If Charles becomes King, doesn't she become something?

The law of title is very simple in this regard. A woman who marries a man of higher rank automatically aquires the female form of his title. Therefore if nothing else changes on their marriage she will become Princess of Wales, Duchess of Cornwall &c.&c.; then on his accession to the throne she would become Queen.

The problem is that most people are not terribly happy about this (I'm not overly keen, but neither am I terribly bothered myself), and therefore I think it likely that she will be given an alternate title - which can be done by specific intervention of the Queen.

I see. Could Queen Elizabeth take her son out of the line of succession and make William the heir?

That's a more difficult one. Our constitution is unwritten, and in the past when such cases arose they tended to be sorted out on the battle-field :-)

It is pretty much inconceivable that Her Majesty would do so without the consent of both H.R.H. Prince Charles, and H.R.H. Prince William; additionally the Prime Minister (and probably those of the various Commonwealth countries which share the monarchy). In that case a bill wouldalmost certaily pass through Parliament (I suspect that it would be unopposed, except by a few arch-leftists who take any excuse to attack the monarchy), which would (like all bills) require Royal Assent, and then become law.

Don't know if you get MSNBC there (probably not, about six people watch it here, unfortunately) but Charles Sabine from London was just on with Don Imus (the best morning program - EVER!). They were discussing this issue and after the exchange ended, Imus' producer, Bernard McQuirk, asked Imus if he wasn't related to Camilla. There is a slight resemblance.

I really don't understand Charle's attraction to this woman....not that he's a prize himself. But after marrying such a beautiful woman like Diana, you'd think he would have good taste.

Now c'mon... common interests, companionship, friendship, those do have some role in a relationship, don't you think? I wouldn't judge a man's taste by how beautiful a woman he marries... sometimes just the opposite. I don't think Diana's beauty was much consolation for the misery that their marriage brought to both of them, do you?
