Deep Throat Close to Death It appears the Watergate source known as "Deep Throat" may be close to death, and that means that individuals name may be made public for the first time.
Reporter Bob Woodward has said in the past that he would disclose the identity of the course when that person died. Deep Throat helped Woodward and the Washington POst expose the Nixon Water gate scandal.
The Washington Post has already prepared an obituary, which means the world may soon know the secret Woodward has managed to keep for 30-years.
very unlikely..Woodward, is a known liar and remember the Casey Book, W. spoke to Casey's ghost.

I think and hope the phily radio station is wrong, with that said, it's been all over town that Dole was recently released from a long hospital stay from a serious fall. I've thought for years he was the likely candidate. It's speculation that he may himself reveal it. Could be what Bernstein was referring to as a "sea change."

I agree. We are not told who the guy is, then we are told he is near death, with no sources named. After Woodward's book on William Casey, who can believe anything Woodward writes? I have always felt Deep Throat was developed to give the book more sex appeal.
Bingo. Deep Throat is just an invention to cover the varied sources and ALLOW them to make sh*t up to further smear Nixon.
I'm not convinced the person existed in the form of ONE being. I do not feel either of these men have credibility.
So say "Deep Throat" is said to have died. Say they point the finger at this "one" person. How does anyone ever know they are telling the truth? The person is dead and can't refute it. The person cannot even verify what they state then be throughly questioned to remove reasonable doubt.
Nixon was a socialist. He had no idea what made this Republic great. He gave us wage and price controls -- total idiot for doing such. He gave us the EPA -- another assault on Freedom. He was okay on Foreign Policy and was a misunderstood man. He was not morally corrupt, but like most Presidents, he began programs that morph into bureaucratic monsters that suck more and more of the hard earned income of the hard working Americans. It's quite rare to have Presidents who respect the 10th Amendment.

I agree that there never was an actual Deep Throat.
In fact, reflecting on the Rathergate episode, I'm even more convinced that the fake memos were the same ploy that W&B used in making up a source for news they "knew" was true.
Unless the actual DT comes forward before his "death", I will never believe he existed.
G.Gordon Liddy has often said that Woodward has no real DT, and will, after the death of some suitable nominee (GHWB, Haig, Kissinger, etc.) that innocent dead person will be saddled with Woodward's DT identity.
Think about it: If it was you, why would you keep it secret if you knew Woodward would "out" you after your death? You would instead take measures to get your version of the events out there so your motives or actions are not misunderstood. You would not try to keep it secret unless you knew you could keep it secret forever--even long after you were dead.
Deep Throat never existed, and if blogging was around in '74, Woodward would have decided to retire a few months later just like Gunga Dan.
I have noticed over the years that GHWB and GWB too seem to blossom when a liberal Democrat says something nice about them. That may explain their flirtations with both EMK and bILLclinton.
Nixon was not conservative, as you say, but I believe that Nixon thought that the public was so liberal that he had to move to the left to have any chance of political success. Maybe the country was more conservative than Nixon thought. Nixon may have been to public opinion in the 1960s and 1970s as Marie Antoinette was the French masses, fearful of their turning against HIM.

I thought the same thing. He is very ill. I believe he used to be a pipe smoker as well.
Bob Woodward lies. He did a death bed interview with Bill Casey (ex head of CIA). The only problem with the interview is Bill Casey was in a deep coma at the time and nobody saw Woodward in the hospital at the time.
Woodward will name someone after they die and claim this is deep throat. There will be no supporting documentation to back up the claim.
Repeat after me, "Bob Woodward tells lies."

I always thought D.T. was a composite if not a complete fabrication. The guy in the parking garage shadows with obscure clues was just too Hollywood for me. But they can pin it on someone after he's gone and get away with it, and they probably will.
