Europe has lost its soul. It really doesn't believe in anything anymore.

Most of the globe, Freepers and myself included, have a very hard time remembering that dislike of a nation is almost always directed at their government and/or their media, not at the "fly-over" folks. There are Muslims at my school that I like... but their nations leave SO much to be desired. Heck, we really get enraged by our own media and government (for most here, remember 1992-2000?). Why do we rail so when those from other lands agree with that sentiment?

Do not forget Belgium, they may be little but their misdeeds are mighty.

have to say that my dad was WWII vet and I've heard all the stories and seen all the movies, studied military history in ROTC and the two times I cried the hardest in my life was at the cemetary in Normandy and the first time I watched Saving Private Ryan.......I knew all the stuff but when you see it up close and feel it.......well I then knew what sacrifices my dad was talking about......proud and humble at the same time.......

We have gone forth from our shores repeatedly over the last hundred years and we've done this as recently as the last year in Afghanistan and put wonderful young men and women at risk, many of whom have lost their lives, and we have asked for nothing except enough ground to bury them in. -- Colin Powell

I must confess my ignorance on Belgium. I generally don't pay any attention to Europe, especially if they keep their mouths shut. One of the things that I noticed about this election was the genuine misperception by Kerry and the mass media that Europe is relevent. Other than the middle east, which must be dealt with, Bush is more concerned with India, China and Mexico. Each of these countries is far more relevent to the US than a dying bunch of semi-monarchies. Kerry wanted to be President so he could go to Europe and be important at elegent parties. Bush wants to position the US to have relationships with the emerging economic powers. Mexico is, of course, a special case.

Any overly generous policy is rewarded by resentment.

Abandon the ungrateful bastards to their own pig ignorance and they'll be singing "God Bless America" in no time.

---Yet, at the very same time, we are urged, through the remorseless process of European integration, to embrace Germany, the country responsible for most of the ills of Europe for the past 140 years.---

I totally disagree with this little gem and I think a close examination of European history would support that there is plenty go blame to go around for the ills of Europe. As far as Muslims go simple demographics explains the problem as well as anything. The invention of the birth control pill wasn't such a boon as we all thought.

"I think a close examination of European history would support that there is plenty go blame to go around for the ills of Europe."

Well I am partly of German descent, and proud to be so. But I remember well looking at the maps of Europe, right before and after German re-unification and it is really a huge country. There can also be no doubt that Germany and France are striving hard to run the EU via their puppets in Brussels. I wouldn't blame the average Euro for worrying about this. Germany DID start WWI and WWII.

As for the pill, of course you are 100% correct. Its invention also gave rise to legalized abortion.

Although the Germans were major participants in WWI they hardly started the war. The British have much on their consciouses as well. They could never let the center of power in Europe naturally coalesce. They were always siding with the weaker party against the stronger in order to improve their own hand: first with the Germans against the French and then with the French against the Germans.

Apparently you missed the many threads and posts whereby we in the USA were saluting and thanking our Allies in England for supporting and standing side-by-side with us.

There were many threads and many posts.

Just in case you missed those threads and posts.....we salute you and thank you for supporting and standing side-by-side with us. :-)

This is only fair game considering how the Yanks have been treated by media in your country, whether it be left or right. And countries in your part of the world as well.

During my time in the Army I have trained with the British Army in Germany and I have talked to some of the soldiers here in Iraq. The Brits rock. I am glad they are on our side.

Maybe instead of Europe, we should just say Francermany.

Great idea.
