I actually equate the ban-addicts with the pedophiles.
Former Friendship Heights, MD, Mayor Mueller (can't think of his first name off-hand)was arrested for sexually assaulting a 14 year old boy in the restroom of the Washington Cathedral. This was shortly after he had tried to get away with banning smoking anywhere outside in his town, to protect the children from the bad influence of seeing adults smoke.
Apparently, in his mind, I'm more of a bad inluence on children than he is.

There are far too many highly paid professional anti-smokers and they are obviously doing a good job, judging by the numbers of FReepers who have swalloed their Kool-aid.

Another one of the anti-smoker heroes is a major proponent of gay adoption. Infact, he is of the mindset he and his "partner" are better parents to their "daughters" than my husband and I are to ours becuase we happen to be smokers.

It gets tiresome to see the such rude generalities and vicious attacks made against California coming from those who live east of the Rockies. This is primarily due to the fact that California has become so overwhelmingly crowded with bizarre types who it seems move here from back east to get away from the winters.
Let's face it throughout history many people who rejected there birthplace have headed west for a variety of reasons, some good and many of them bad. Unfortunately, California was as far as they could go.

Speaking of those using generalities..........you might like to take a look in the mirror. I don't believe I've criticized Californians, just the laws supported by some of them.

It's getting late, and I've been distracted, so I'm taking an unusual step (and liberty) of answering both of you with one post.
There are actually 3 ban (semiban) proposals in VA right now. The first would require signs in restaurants that children under 12 shouldn't be seated in smoking sections. The 2nd requires signs stating children under 12 are prohibited in smoking sections. The 3rd is a total smoking ban effective July 1 of this year with bars exempted until July 1 of next year.
The first one I could live with. The 2nd one eliminates my husband and I going out for lunch or dinner with our daughter. The 3rd is just totally preposterous, for numerous reasons....... but I'll stick with 2. The first being it is total a smoking ban, the second is that the only "bars" I am aware of in Virginia are private clubs such as the Moose Lodge.
I spent nearly 40 minutes on the phone with the "constituant" person in my state senator's office this afternoon.........and it was a VERY good talk. I also have a call into the equivalent person in my delegate's office. If I haven't heard back from her by noon I will be back on the phone. My delegate also happens to be my attorney, and so he will not be happy to find out I was not contacted in a timely fashion.

That's right, no smoking is to be allowed during the homosexual unprotected sex in these parks. Smoking is too much of a risk.
