WOULD YOU LET YOUR DAUGHTER WEAR THIS PROM DRESS?
New York Post ^ | January 24, 2005 | DANICA LO

PROM princess or porn queen?

This prom dress is so skimpy, even the designer's CEO wouldn't let his teenage daughter wear it. But the dangerously revealing gown, prominently advertised in Seventeen Prom, YM Prom and Teen Prom, and on sale in a Midtown shop, is a top seller for the company this season.

"I was shocked when I first saw it, but now it's one of our top 20 dresses nationwide," says Nick Yeh, the CEO of Xcite, the Stafford, Texas, company that designed the dress and some 200 other styles this season.

"I have a 15-year-old daughter and, no, I would not recommend she wear this dress.

"As a businessman," he adds, "I'm not judging what a teenager should wear or not wear. It's up to the parents to decide for their own children."

In fact, some shops in smaller cities require girls to bring in parental permission slips to buy the dress, Yeh told The Post.

At Elite Designs, a formal shop in Midtown that has the barely-there gown on a mannequin, owner Surinder Nagpal says, "We've gotten a few calls about that dress. Originally, I wasn't going to stock [it], but my sales associate told me that girls would want it, so we're stocking it in black and red."

So far, says Helen Rodriguez, Nagpal's sales associate, no one has bought the $495 gown - but it just arrived.

And she's talking about her two-year old! I doubt if she will think the same thing in 15 years.

LOL...if my HS aged son's date wore this, I would be drinking. Heavily.

Our only girl iS a college sophomore...when she went to the prom, the only problem I had was finding evening gloves. She loves the Audrey Hepburn retro 'look.' THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would let me daughter wear this....
after she put on the apropropriate blouse.

However, as fashion, it sucks.

Slutty and hot can be okay (cough, ahem)...but this isn't even close to hot, and it's way past slutty.

I saw a future Maria in Wal-Mart the other day. Cold day mind you but she was wearing about 5 or 6 thin strips in the back, boobs hanging out, about a 6 month pregnant belly exposed. She'll make a wonderful mother.

There's a Maria like that in every Wal-Mart. They come with the store.

Darn you!

Make that dress in white, and that is what my wife made as her wedding dress.

Hey, we were poor at the time, but....

Darn you!

well, if she nurses the baby, she has the "boobs hanging out" routine already down. And if she dresses like that, the "modesty in the delivery room" issues won't bother her. So maybe she will do okay.

BRIDEMAIDS DRESSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(Sound of PaMom running from her computer in horror, shreiking...trying not wake the kiddies). I have red hair. I was, not once, but TWICE, assigned the 'green dress' in a rainbow assembly of bridemaids. Oh the humanity!!!

If my prom date had worn something like this we would never of made it to the dance! I definitely think that any teen who would wear that dress has issues that require some therapy.
