A culture of life for America got a big boost from President Bush as he addressed, from Camp David by telephone, pro-life demonstrators in DC marking the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. He told abortion opponents he shared their support for 'a culture of life' and lauded progress in passing legislation to protect the vulnerable.
Presidents Bush and Chirac plan to have dinner in Europe next month. The president is also planning to host Chirac in the United States sometime soon. Bush plans to stop in Germany, and to meet with Russia's Putin in the Slovak Republic during his visit to Europe.
The Bush administration plans to announce it will seek about $80 billion in new funding for military operations this year in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, will lead a US delegation to Poland for observances marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps. Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!
Have a wonderful trip, Prairie. We'll be waiting to hear from you.
I'm doing all right, enjoying my little bit of England!
Thanks for the well wishes folks.
That's the second thing learned on FR today.....
Thanks for the ping Gretchen. I always seem to log off right before it gets posted and when I come back on there is 100 or more posts! Of course I had to watch my favorite T.V. show (24). :) Hope everyone is well.
Hi snugs, and I thought I was alone again.
The first piece of information was regarding the number "1,00,000". I pinged Bah Bah and comment about the creative numbers of the democrats....Someone more worldly than I said it was a number used in India, gave it's name* and said it equaled 100,000.
Yes you are right FR is a great source of information.
*Sorry can't remember what it was called.
Hello Emily
I got my Commemorative Invitation to the Inauguration two days before the Inaugural. My daughter was real impressed! I didn't show her the second page, which said the first page basically meant nothing. She thought I ought to quickly buy a dress and hit the highway--never mind details like a day's drive, accommodations, parking and security. We had a great conversation imagining the various balls. I told her the only one I'd go to would be the FReeper Ball, even if I didn't get to see Pres. Bush. I hope they'll send us a lovely commemorative photo of the Bushes all dressed up for the Inaugural Balls. Well, at least we had time to imagine. Sorry your "invitation" came too late.
The article is from an Indian paper. India has a number, the lakh, which is 100,000. They punctuate it as 1,00,000.
Just have a moment before I pass out from fatigue . . . still recovering from a.) driving over 1,000 miles during an intense four-day period, b.) starting my son at a new high school (he loves it), and c.) spending a 'wacky' day at the office!
Before bed, however, I wanted to provide some highlights from my (and my son's) Washington DC adventure:
[Let me preface my comments by noting that we didn't attend the Patriot/Ohio Ball . . . the streets by our hotel were blocked for so long following the inaugural parade that the cabs routed to different areas of the city . . . my only other option, spending $600 to reserve a Towncar . . . I just couldn't justify such an expenditure when my son was more interested in a steak dinner and I still had AWESOME memories of meeting and/or seeing the President/First Lady 'up close and personal' at least six times during the past year!!]
Highlight One:
. . . getting to spend both quality and QUANTITY time bonding with my 15-year-old son who still thinks his mom is kinda cool!
Highlight Two:
. . . getting to introduce my son to Governor Taft, Secretary of State Blackwell, and gubernatorial candidate Betty Montgomery . . . They each spent several minutes chatting with him and making him feel as though he was the most important person in DC (I could have kissed them all . . . well, maybe only SofS Blackwell)!
Highlight Three:
. . . meeting an intern in Rob Portman's office who opened Michael's eyes to the endless possibilities (in college and on the Hill) for a kid with Michael's interests and talents!
Highlight Four:
. . . meeting a wonderful (politically-connected) woman from Columbus who offered to arrange an internship for Michael with a state senator . . . Michael's still considering the offer . . . currently, he's more interested in basketball and girls (not necessarily in that order) UGH!!
Highlight Five:
. . . being interviewed by two New England radio stations about the President and the protesters . . . I was only too happy to ablige . . . and they were only too happy to pepper me with questions about Ohio (and its role in the 2004 election) and my experiences as a university professor who staunchly supports President George W Bush (I just love shattering stereotypes!)
Highlight Six:
. . . absorbin the local 'color' surrounding the Inaugural . . . reading, listening, and watching EVERYTHING relating to our AWESOME President and his beautiful family!!!
Highlight Seven:
. . . touring various monuments and museums . . . our favorite was the Museum of American History (I had visited the museum before; this was Michael's first time) . . . Michael's favorite exhibit: Weapons of War -- the Revolutionary War to Iraq . . . My favorite exhibit: America's First Ladies.
BOTTOMLINE: My son and I had a phenomenal time CELEBRATING the inauguration of President George W Bush . . . FOUR MORE YEARS!!!
Night all!
Great you had a fab time good night
Good night and God Bless you all
Prayers for Condi Rice tomorrow
God Bless the President and Vice President and their families
God Bless America
Thanks for sharing.....You've made wonderful memories with your son!
Good night Snugs...Sweet dreams.
Hi! In response to your post to me yesterday... I was born and raised in Quebec. I started admiring the President after I saw how strong of a leader he was after the terrorist attacks.... back when I was 14. Now I'm 17,turning 18 in a couple of days, and my admiration for him is still strong.
I was Listening to my favorite Christian Radio Program this afternoon, and a man who had met our Dubya asked him, "What can I Pray for you, Mr. President?"
Our Dubya said, "Pray that I will be a Godly Husband, a Godly Father, and a Godly Leader."
I was Rejoicing to hear that! I thank our Gracious Lord for Granting us this Wonderful President!
Well bravo to you gwb...I admire you. And Happy Birthday!
thank goodness I didn't get to the second page.
I thought I'd been invited! (ha, only joking)
But I did look in the closet for a suitable frock.
