The first family attended church this morning. Afterwards, the President headed to Camp David where he was to meet with his advisors to work on his State of the Union Address.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: At this second gathering, our duties are defined not by the words I use, but by the history we have seen together. For a half century, America defended our own freedom by standing watch on distant borders. After the shipwreck of communism came years of relative quiet, years of repose, years of sabbatical - and then there came a day of fire.
Some, I know, have questioned the global appeal of liberty - though this time in history, four decades defined by the swiftest advance of freedom ever seen, is an odd time for doubt. Americans, of all people, should never be surprised by the power of our ideals. Eventually, the call of freedom comes to every mind and every soul. We do not accept the existence of permanent tyranny because we do not accept the possibility of permanent slavery. Liberty will come to those who love it.
President George W. Bush, 2nd Inaugural Address, January 20, 2005
I think this was posted earlier; she didn't go. We were speculating she stayed at the WH to spend time with her mom and the elder Bushes and her daughters. The Pres. went to work on his State of the Union address. I bet he'll come back tomorrow anyway.
Maybe I'll have to re-think parrots--sounds like you can have a lot of fun with them!
I just pray nothing horrible happens with the elections. The complaints about people not registering, not knowing who all the canidates are, etc. apply in the US just as in Iraq. Just so there are no car bombs or anything devastating like that.
I included a photo of the First Lady's cat today
Yes, I sure enjoyed seeing the 1st Cat. Thanks for
including her.
Well, thank God they got out safely. I can't imagine living like that.
They are fun. Several that I have are just as cuddly as a dog or cat and love to be handled. Charlie is sitting on my shoulder as I type sipping Coke, trying to remove my glasses and making belching noises.
When I first knew the lady who is about my age, she would not talk too loud about her feelings concerning Saddam.
I suppose growing up under those circumstances would make one cautious.
But as time went on and she was not afraid, she had no problem expressing her feelings about the regime.
We did the right thing.
Amen to that
I'm in Oklahoma, snugs, in the Southwest U.S. We get cold, but not often like that.
who with laura at the white house is his parent still there
The debate (aka Dem bloviating) is to be on Tuesday. I think they estimate the vote on Wednesday. #$*#! Democrats!
I have to give Diane Feinstein (D Ca) credit for sounding like a reasonable human being who cares about her country on this. She went on the talk shows this morning and really backed Condi up, because she said the Senate shouldn't do anything to diminish Dr. Rice's credibility to the world. At least there's one Dem who seems to have some common sense and some love of country and is abile put its best interests ahead of her party's.
RE: Iraquis voting--that is very cool. Do you know any personally
Yes, mostly the Chaldeans. Several have a large
magazine store near me. Big Bush supporters.
One from Babylon. He told me how he escaped some
yrs. back. Most Iraqis live around 16 miles east of
me in one of our suburb areas.
They help each other, many own businesses, learn English.
unlike some other I could name.
I hadn't thought of that. You're absolutely right. I'm sure the success of the Iraqi elections would be the best present he could possibly get for his birthday.
Thanks it seems such a strange system to me as in the UK the Prime Minister announces a new cabinet minister and that is that. I suppose one of the differences is that they are an elected official already (although you can have someone who is from the House of Lords such as Lord Young in a previous Tory Administration) and therefore have been vetted by their own local party before they were even nominated as the candidate.
She constantly asks "Wheres John Kerry?"
Oh, you definitely should get a video of that.
The nomination of Cabinet members and judges used to be much less contentious than it is now, although occasionally candidates in the past ran into problems. For example, when GHWB was appointed director of the CIA, it was because the original candidate, John Tower, did not pass the Senate vote. It's hard for me to imagine that affable old gentleman as director of the CIA, but apparently he was quite good.
Joe Biden is trying to make as much trouble as he can for Alberto Gonzales, too. Biden is despicable.
Good night, snugs.
I will make an early night of it too. Good night, all. Sending up prayers for Dr. Rice, for our other candidates (Alberto Gonzales), for our military and those fighting with them, and for the success of the Iraqi elections.
We plan on taking a trip to Crawford later in the spring. It will be a weekend trip for us. Can't wait!
