BRITISH Muslims are to boycott this weeks commemoration of the liberation of Auschwitz because they claim it is not racially inclusive and does not commemorate the victims of the Palestinian conflict.
Iqbal Sacranie, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, has written to Charles Clarke, the home secretary, saying the body will not attend the event unless it includes the holocaust of the Palestinian intifada.
He said similar events held in other European countries was an inclusive day that commemorated deaths in Palestine, Rwanda and the former Yugoslavia, as well as the former Nazi death camps.
We wrote to the Home Office three or four weeks ago. We said the issue of the Holocaust is not really the concern. But we have now expressed our unwillingness to attend the ceremony because it excludes ongoing genocide and human rights abuses around the world and in the occupied territories of Palestine, he said.
Home Office officials have told the council, which represents more than 350 Muslim organisations, that they are considering the request. But officials have no plans to broaden the remit of the occasion because they fear it would infuriate the Jewish community.
The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh and Tony Blair will attend the ceremony in Westminster Hall this Thursday to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz and other Nazi death camps, in which more than 6m Jews were exterminated.
More than 600 Holocaust survivors living in Britain, together with British soldiers who helped liberate the Bergen-Belsen death camp, will be at the event. Jack Straw, the foreign secretary, and Prince Edward will fly to Poland for a ceremony at Auschwitz.
This weekend the boycott by the leaders of Britains 1.2m Muslims was condemned by Khalid Mahmood, the MP for Birmingham Perry Barr. Im proud to be a Muslim. But if people are boycotting this then I think its a mistake. People who were exterminated in the Holocaust were not just Jews. There were Romany gypsies as well. Anybody who is interested in human rights should support this remembrance.
The boycott is an embarrassment for Clarke, who as the cabinet minister responsible for faith communities is the events official host. It has also angered the Jewish community, which sees it as a snub to the memories of Holocaust victims and to survivors.
Blair said: It is our hope that Holocaust Memorial Day will provide a focus for reflecting on that tragic event, and on our shared and individual responsibility to work for a more just and tolerant world.
Right you are, Clara lou.
Y'know what? I don't have a strong opinion on this subject, and I don't mean to flame you here, but I have been through this thread and many many similar threads over the past few years.
I would strongly advise you to stop defending Islam. You have been presented with imagery proving Islamic complicity with the attempt to wipe out the Jewish culture during WWII. Similar attempts by modern Islam has been going on for the last 50+ post WWII years. If they're trying to liquidate the Jewish culture now, you can bet that they were doing it during WWII.
Are there Muslims who don't condone what is currently happening? Yes. But their numbers are small, which is a statement I make based on the reluctance of most Islamic officials to condemn the attacks on Christians.
In conclusion, I believe that the Muslim world was most certainly supportive of Hitler and his attempts to wipe out the Jewish culture.
There were nazi death camps in which 800,000 Christians and Jews died. I cannot remember the totals but is was something like 20,000 Jews and the rest were Christians.
The fact is that the vast majority of people who died were Christians. Tens of millions of them were killed, but no museum or monuments are erected in their remembrance. Why aren't 20-25 millions Russian Christian and millions upon millions of Christians of other nationality not remembered? The next time people read of the millions of deaths in WWII, they should think that the vast majority of them were, by and large, Christians. That is the real tragedy of WWII. Remember people!
Muslims, all of them want Israel off the planet.
Corrections: muslims want all Christian, Buddhists, Hindus and all other infidels off the planet, including Jews, of course.
Thank you for stating that better than I could have. I don't believe that my Polish relatives are any less dead or any less important than any Jew that was slaughtered by Hitler!
Why should anyone have to dig for the facts and the whole truth? Why is it being buried in the first place? I knew plenty more than most people before you "enlightened" me and how do you suppose I did? That's right by reading. How do you suppose I found myself debating Allan Colmes in email about it? That's right by looking to learn more. You can have this discussion with me without talking down to me or you can have it alone. Your choice.
I suppose that now we know the precise definition of the term "moderate", don't we?

Nazis and Muslims. Brothers to the bone. What we had to do to the former we will do to the latter, in due time.

6 Million jews died. 7 million other nationalities. Of course the other people were mixed. The Jews were the only single race, group? that suffered 6 million. However, I agree with you, the other 7 million should be mentioned and brought to peoples attention.
The term anti-semitic comes from the Anti-Semitic Party founded by Wilhelm Marr, who sought to differentiate "sciantific" racial hatred of Jews from medieval religious hatred.
"Iqbal Sacranie, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain, has written to Charles Clarke, the home secretary, saying the body will not attend the event
"
.
That's fine and dandy.
Who invited him, anyway?

WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON, BOY? WHICH SIDE ARE YOU ON?

You're right in that most Arabs are a Semitic people; I
