(Jersey City-WABC, January 17, 2005) A massive turnout is expected this morning at the funerals of a Jersey City family. The family was found bound, gagged and slashed to death on Friday.
The police are talking about robbery and religious hatred as motives. But ABC News has learned the FBI sees a possible link to a terror trial now underway in New York.
The bodies of Hossam Armanious and his wife and two young daughters will leave from Journal Square for the church at around 10:00 this morning. The coffins will arrive at the church just around 10:30 for the funeral service.
Thousands are expected to attend. And many of those are very fearful because there are no arrests in this case.
There are still several theories on the table as to why all this happened. There is doubt and uncertainty in this close-knit community.
ABC News has learned that the slain family's cousin has been a translator working for the prosecution in the trial of Lynne Stewart. She is the radical lawyer accused of smuggling messages from imprisoned Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, to terrorist cell members and associates.

Though we love and admire DG here in Texas, he's from California.
Not a leap on my part. I was only commenting on the story.
Why would someone want to get at the translator? I'm sure they record testimony. If the translator goofs up or intentionally misinterprets, then they just have another translator listen to the tape and get it right.
These guys may be dumb, but I don't think they're that dumb. If they were going to bump off someone in order to impact the trial, they'd choose someone who would make a difference.
I am so toast.
Thanks for that information.
I wonder if killing the family of the intepreter might also have an effect on the trial. I don't know if it's before a jury or not, but if it is and they become aware of the connection, I suppose it might be considered prejudicial to the defendants (Lynne Stewart and her interpreter for working with the sheik, a man named Mohammed Khoury).
I'm not sure what you are saying. Are you saying that it was a hate crime, or are you saying that they did it because they were trying to impact the trial? The story suggests that they were trying to impact the trial. I don't buy that. To me, the hate crime theory makes more sense.
Check post 17. That's the way I'm leaning.
He recently argued in a chat room with a Muslim, who felt he had insulted Islam. That man reportedly threatened to kill him if he didn't take back his comments.
Now of course there is a possibility that the family was robbed by someone who, perchance, used the same MO as a Muslim executioner...let's say 1000 to 1...and that's being generous. And I know police work...these gals and guys, despite the bad word spread, are humans with a desire for justice. In fact, their desire is quite strong...and strenthened by every frikken brutal murder they encounter.
I imagine the detectives and investigators on this case are like dogs...they may not find the culprit such that a trial can be brought and won...but they will know who did it and why.
And we can already speculate very accurately as to why...these Christians did not convert and had the audacity to speak truthfully about Islam.
This is the fate that awaits all of us...
Islam must die...we must kill it!
The cousin apparently wasn't close to the murdered family.
The link between the dead father's outbursts against Muslims on Paltalk ICQ seeming more probable.

Islamic Violence Against Copts Reaches Into Jersey City
14:56 Jan 17, '05 / 7 Shevat 5765
(IsraelNN.com) An Egyptian Coptic (Christian) man, his wife and their two daughters were found brutally stabbed to death last week in Jersey City, New Jersey. The apparent motive for the killings, according to sources close to the case and others close to the family, was Islamic fanaticism.
The murdered man, Hossam Armanious, was known for his outspoken Christian faith, which he promoted in Internet "chat rooms" among Muslim web surfers. According to a fellow Jersey City Copt, a Muslim in the chat room had threatened to kill Armanious "like a chicken."
Mohsen Lutfi, one of the founding members of an Egyptian movement calling for a return to the land's Coptic roots, said in 2003, "We are Egyptians and not Arabs.... The Arabs are our friends and neighbors and we have common destiny, but we are not Arabs."
Copts are allegedly descended from the ancient Egyptian peoples who populated the region before the Arab Islamic imperial wars of conquest in North Africa in the early 600s CE.
Possibly. The exact motive may not be clear. However, the calling card says "Islamicist" all over it--the slit throat. That's what they did to the 911 victims.
bttt
Agreed.
"A Coptic to a Muslim is like a Hasidim that loves pork chops." Any "jihadist" or even a "wannabe" would take exceptional pride and pleasure in doing this heinous and unthinkable crime.
I hope when they are found, there is a MOAB with the name of their ancestral village on it.
That's the difference between youse guys and ourselves: down there a dude can marry his sister - but up here, he can marry his brother...
You can say that again...
To the detectives on the case, the motive is as clear as a bell...it is a question of whether the evidence will stand up in court, not a matter of what the investigators think. What say you, Jan...confirm or deny?
"Police woman coming on duty, stand back please!"
ROFLOL>>>>Yousss guys!
All same thing GI!
Both buddy... BOTH! Hate crime and a threat to ANYBODY who works against their terrorist cells.
